Org. Setting and Reporting
The Carpenter at this level reports to a unit chief/ supervisor as assigned by Chief Engineer. She/he is responsible for the manufacturing, construction, repair and refurbishment of office and accommodation elements such as doors and windows etc. in-built wooden furniture. The incumbent is also responsible for construction of dry walls, roof, wooden partitions and drop ceilings, as required.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a Unit Chief or supervisor as assigned by the Chief Engineer, the Carpenter will perform the following duties: • Estimate material requirements and tools or equipment. • Assist in manufacturing of furniture which are difficult to purchase due to shape and size such as special desks, tables, cupboards, pigeonholes, notice boards, green felt boards, maps boards and frames, shelves, kitchen cupboards wooden basis with wheels, secured cupboard for fax machines beds and wooden counters. • Assist in setting up and operating woodworking tools to cut form and finish material. • Assist in erecting or dismantling structures including roofing or siding and prefabricated buildings. • Assist in repairing and/or refinishing walls and structures, roofs and drywalls. • Assist in repairing and fitting doors, door locks and windows. • Lubricating and maintaining carpentry specific equipment. Using and caring for power tools. • Assist in the installation of wood and/or metal parts, glass or replacing broken glass, floor and ceiling tiles. • Assist in preparing scaffolding as required such as roughing in and finishing carpentry, painting and refinishing objects, walkways and floor slabs, etc. • Perform cabinet works and repairing furniture on special cases. • Travel to various UN positions and camps to provide support and services and work along with other contingent teams as and when required. • Perform other related duties as required.

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent with carpentry certified or vocational training is required. Knowledge of carpentry works and skilled in operating carpentry equipment required. Methods and procedures used in receiving work orders or plans for prompt and efficient execution. Incumbent must be skilled in taking measurements and choosing the right requirements. Safety awareness to avoid hazard is an advantage.
Job – Specific Qualification
A valid Driving license is desirable. Relevant certificate in Carpentry or related field is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of practical experience is required. Knowledge to evaluate all kinds of wood, formica, glue and the ability to select the best quality of tools and equipment is required.
Languages
For the position, fluency in Arabic is required and knowledge of English is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
