General Description of the Organization:

Ghiras Al-Nahda is a Nonprofit Non-governmental humanitarian organization working to empower people through fulfilling their basic needs and seeking to improve community stability and resilience.

Job Purpose:

The Child Protection Officer will help the project manager with daily activities and documentation related to child protection activities.

She/he will be responsible for supervising remotely all activities for children in the project locations in Syria. She/he will report to the project manager and will have to organize and supervise the case management team and all their related tasks.

She/he will be responsible for following up on the child protection program within GAN in line with child protection (CP) quality standards. Furthermore, He/she will contribute to capacity building for project staff and ensure the effective delivery of child protection activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of protection teams, follow up on their work, and evaluate their job performance,
  • Preparing intervention plans (PSS- Awareness sessions).
  • Supervise the interventions.
  • Design clear tools for data collection and treatment,
  • Produce timely reports for internal use on the activities in each location, highlighting challenges, best practices, and lessons learned, Attending relevant training or events.
  • Raising awareness of the Code of Conduct for working with children and CSG.
  • Encourage good practice by promoting and championing the child protection policy and procedures, monitor and review the child protection policy and procedures to ensure they remain current and fit for purpose,
  • Make decisions regarding child protection issues and Build networks of contact in the child protection field.
  • Ensure all the staff adheres to the principles on the Rights of the Child, particularly respecting confidentiality and using a child-centered approach with the best interests of the child as the leading philosophy, and respond appropriately to disclosures or concerns that relate to the well-being of a child.
  • Attend the relevant coordination meetings with the donor or clusters.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • University degree in psychology, sociology, related field of study.
  • 3 years of work in NGOs/INGO.
  • Previous work in child protection/case management programs.
  • Field experience and a solid understanding of psychosocial / protection issues in such a context.
  • Experience in remote management and staff capacity building.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience working on and mainstreaming gender issues.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to deal with sensitive situations with integrity.
  • The confidence and good judgment to manage situations relating to the poor conduct/behavior of others towards a child.
  • Ability to work within a fluid situation (changes within the team, location of programs).
  • Fluent in English and Arabic, Turkish is an asset.
