Consulting and Projects Forester, Natural Resource Specialist 3 (NRS3)

Salary: $4,865.00 – $6,539.00 Monthly

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Olympic Region’s State Lands with various consulting needs relative to habitat and forest management
  • Support and manage the implementation and execution of the T3 Watershed Experiment
  • Conduct Old Growth assessments and other habitat delineations
  • Consult with staff regarding timber sales, silviculture activities, engineering, and recreation projects
  • Establish strong working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, environmental science, forest ecology, or a closely related field;
    OR An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Professional experience in a natural resource program area.
  • Knowledge of general forest management theory (timber management planning, silviculture, appraisal techniques, timber sales, contract preparation and administration, forest fire prevention and suppression, logging and forest road construction, reforestation methods, public relations, statistical analysis).
  • Experience with navigating using mobile devices, maps, aerial photos, a compass, and GPS.
  • Experience using MS Word, MS Excel, ArcGIS, and an aptitude for learning new software programs.
  • Experience with contract compliance.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to resolve conflicts, write effectively, and communicate with diverse groups, both internal and external.
  • Ability to inspect, instruct, and work with contract crews to ensure prescriptions are met.
  • Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
