The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), has a great opportunity for an Environmental Protection (EP) Forester 1 (35 Hour) within the Forestry Division’s State Lands Management Unit to work in Camp Columbia, Mohawk, Nassahegon, Tunxis, and Wyantenock State Forests. 

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

As an EP Forester 1, you will:

  • Work independently providing forestry assistance managing Agency owned state forest for the Division of Forestry;
  • Develop and implement Forest Management Plans for the assigned state forests;
  • Coordinate and conduct educational workshops for interested groups regarding various aspects of forest management, climate change, forest carbon, forest health, insects and disease, and other natural resource interests and issues;
  • Act as a Department representative at technical and professional meetings;
  • May lead and assist in fire prevention and control activities including the training and direction of fire wardens and crews;
  • Assist other states or federal agencies on emergency assignments;
  • Responds (e.g., written & orally) to correspondence and inquiries;
  • Provides recommendations to supervisor & staff on assessment of programs to improve efficiency;
  • Reviews plans & documents prepared by others.
