This unclassified, full-time position in the Wildlife Division located in Pratt County and stationed temporarily out of The Pratt Headquarters Office, with main office plans being at the Texas Lake Wildlife Area and is directly supervised by Lucas Kramer, Regional Wildlife Supervisor.

The incumbent has district wildlife responsibilities in Pawnee, Stafford, Edwards, Pratt, Kiowa, Comanche and Barber counties. Work involves: responsibility for administering the walk-in hunting areas program (WIHA) in assigned district, which includes program outreach, property review, landowner contacts, contract negotiations and posting of signs; promoting, planning and implementing wildlife habitat projects on private land through the Departments Habitat First program, USDA Farm Bill programs and through other partner initiatives designed to improve habitat. This position will have a strong focus on improving priority habitats including sand prairies, wetlands and the Red Hills of south central Kansas, working collaboratively with landowners, NGO partners and other state and federal agencies.

The position is responsible for conducting various wildlife surveys and disease monitoring/control efforts; assisting other Divisions as needed with fish and wildlife management programs; supporting the departments recruitment, retention and reactivation efforts; coordinating with local, state and federal agricultural and natural resource agencies and constituency groups; responding to animal damage complaints; coordinating and participating in public information and education efforts; conducting environmental assessments; supervising seasonal employees; and completing various administrative duties necessary to support the district wildlife management program.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor’s degree in environmental, agricultural or natural sciences/resources. Experience in the fields listed above may be substituted for the required education as determined relevant by the agency. Applicants possessing a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in wildlife science/management will be given preference. Candidates with one year of field experience are strongly preferred. The successful candidate must pass a background check and possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
