Our IT&Digital function is partnering with our business and using new technologies to help improve how we do our job – through cloud computing, artificial intelligence or machine learning, to name just a few.We nurture and connect our people by integrating data and AI capabilities across the organisation.We have a variety of opportunities across our IT and Digital organisation. You’ll get to work on new and exciting products, use up-to-date tech stack and actively contribute to the success of the team by innovating, participating in technical discussions, and contributing to the development of products that will transform the organization.Depending on the specific role, your key accountabilities may include:

  • Deliver new applications or frameworks in the form of novel software and hardware solutions.
  • Leverage and deploy existing software and hardware as part of existing IT assets.
  • Support the development of investment papers and technical solution proposals.
  • Aid the assurance of design deliverables to ensure workable solutions are relayed to service delivery functions.
  • Assist in the development of systems and applications through writing structured code.

Our Graduate ProgrammeAs you’ll be joining our 18-month graduate programme, you’ll have a tailored development pathway to support you as you develop a wide range of leadership, business, and technical skills. You’ll attend in-person and virtual development sessions throughout your programme to equip you with the essential skills required, as you begin your career at National Grid. We’re committed to the personal development of our colleagues so as well as the support from your line manager as you navigate your new role, you’ll also have access to 121 coaching and a mentor, from a previous cohort to help you transition from campus to corporate life.All graduates complete the core development programme to develop key skills such as how to make an impact, giving feedback and presentation skills. Aligned to our IT & Digital pathway you’ll develop your IT technical skills including AGILE and Scrum. You’ll also gain important insights in engineering and electricity to help broaden your understanding of our business and industry.We believe in the importance of getting as much on-the-job experience as possible and to do this, you will complete three 6-month placements, across the UK, designed to deepen your understanding of your speciality but to also broaden your knowledge of our business. At the end of your 18-month programme you’ll return to your initial placement area to kickstart your superpowered career.What you’ll need to applyYou’ll need to achieve a minimum of a 2:1 in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics or User Design/Front End Technologies. It doesn’t matter when you graduated or if you are currently working towards your qualification. We just need you to be eager to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting.You’ll need flexibility to travel within role and throughout your rotations as required.To be eligible to apply for this role, candidates must be able to demonstrate that they will have the legal right to work in the UK for the duration of the graduate programme.
