IRVD is implementing projects through regional offices in Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, Palestine, and Somalia.
Our work sectors are Health, Nutrition, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Protection, Shelter &Non-food items, Wash and Sanitation.
IRVD also manages development projects, advocates to empower civil societies and local governance.
Job Description
IRVD is seeking a Hematologist in the Blood Bank that plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of blood products used for transfusion. This position combines clinical expertise in hematology with specialized knowledge of blood banking practices. The Hematologist works closely with other healthcare professionals to oversee donor screening, blood collection, testing, and transfusion processes, and provides consultation on the appropriate use of blood products for patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide medical oversight for all aspects of blood banking operations, including donor selection, blood collection, processing, testing, storage, and distribution.
- Review and interpret laboratory test results related to blood typing, compatibility testing, infectious disease screening, and other relevant assays.
- Consult with clinical staff to provide expert guidance on the selection and administration of blood products for transfusion therapy, including appropriate dosage and timing.
- Participate in the development and implementation of protocols and policies related to blood transfusion practices, in collaboration with the blood bank team and hospital leadership.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Provide education and training to healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and laboratory staff, on blood transfusion safety, indications, and complications.
- Collaborate with hospital transfusion committees and other interdisciplinary teams to monitor and improve transfusion practices, including the appropriate use of blood products and the management of transfusion reactions.
- Investigate and respond to adverse events or incidents related to blood transfusions, in collaboration with hospital quality improvement and infection control teams.
Ability to:
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Proficiency in interpreting laboratory test results and clinical data related to hematology and blood banking.
- Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.
- Experience in medical education and training preferred, with the ability to effectively communicate complex medical concepts to diverse audiences.
Qualifications
- Medical degree with board certification in Hematology required.
- Current medical licensure in the state of practice.
- Strong knowledge of blood banking regulations, accreditation standards, and quality assurance principles.
Experience:
- At least two years of experience in the field, preferably in a relief environment.
- Experience working with relief and rehabilitation NGOs or an agency in the humanitarian aid field.
- Advanced planning, evaluation, and analysis skills.
- Good report and proposal writing skills.
Languages:
- Arabic and English are mandatory (oral and written)
