ENGAGEMENT DETAILS
Location: Remote. Specifically seeking contractors based in East Africa, Central America and the Caribbean, or Southeast Asia. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of small-scale farming environments.
Duration: Hire date – June 30, 2025 (20 hours per week). Must be available for overlap with Pacific Time Zone daytime working hours. Preferred hours are 9:00 am to 1:00 pm PT. There is potential for this to transition to a permanent, full-time position at the conclusion of this contract.

Years Experience Range: 1 – 3 years preferred
Pay Range: $27.00 – 32.00 per hour USD.
Final offer will be adjusted based on market rate criteria of the final candidate’s specific years experience, skillset qualifications, and geographic location. As this is a contract position, there are no benefits.

OUR NEED
We are searching for a gifted and experienced Grant Writer who will play a key role in the fundraising function of Plant With Purpose. As a contributor to the Development Operations team, your primary objective will be to research and craft compelling grant proposals that effectively and timely communicate the goals and needs of Plant With Purpose to our funding partners. Additionally, you may offer strategic advice to members of our fundraising team who are cultivating relationships with foundations and other donors. You must possess a strong understanding of program operations, and be capable of maintaining grant systems including pipeline, work chart, and exceptions process.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Grant Writing
- Write and edit proposals, letters of intent, concept notes, RFPs, and other necessary pieces for current and new funders.
- Write compelling and accurate reports as requested by funders and fundraisers.
- Compellingly articulate the mission, vision, and ministry to which God has called Plant With Purpose, in language directed to various audiences.
- Demonstrate a passion for and familiarity with each of the areas of Plant With Purpose’s mission, including environmental restoration, economic empowerment, and spiritual renewal.
- Research, interpret, and/or draft program and financial information needed for the development of grant proposals and all necessary reporting.
- Offer strategic advice to fundraisers (Regional Representatives, Director of Development, Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships, Chief Executive Officer, VP of Development and Marketing) on ways to pitch Plant With Purpose programs in a manner that will most resonate with unique foundations and target audiences, lending particular expertise to content featuring the region in which you reside.
Research and Technical Writing
- Research new grant opportunities and industry trends.
- Partner with the Development Team, International Programs Team, and the COO to write strategic topic papers and internal training resources, as requested.
- Assist in writing other Plant With Purpose pieces as needed.
Grants Management
- Help maintain grants calendar, grants pipeline, and exceptions systems.
- Maintain accurate and timely records within Plant With Purpose systems (e.g. Bloomerang/Salesforce and grants management systems) and ensure that others on the team do the same.
- Collaborate with the International Programs Team to stay abreast of program developments and funding needs.
Networking and Collaboration
- Pursue networking opportunities to connect with foundations and other strategic organizations in the region where you live.
- Collaborate with Plant With Purpose teams, as well as other grant writers, to strengthen fundraising efforts and contribute to fundraising-related capacity building.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Collaborate on Development Team projects as needed.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and belonging; and, as a leader, uphold and model Plant With Purpose’s Core Values in your behaviors and actions with our local staff, donors, and global partners.
WHAT WE’LL LOVE ABOUT YOU
- Bachelor’s degree in related field;
- 1-3 years experience in international non-profit setting;
- 1+ years successful grant writing and compliance experience in a nonprofit environment
- You have a high level of research, writing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
- You are highly detail-oriented and can maintain systems for tracking grant deadlines, submissions, applications, works in progress, budgets, grant fulfillment, reporting deadlines, to ensure that granting organizations expectations align with results.
- You have the ability to manage multiple projects and numerous deadlines in parallel.
- You have strong project management skills, including time management, organizational skills, and effectively communicating with other team members.
- You are highly attentive to detail in dealing with data, administration, and communications.
- You can engage in organizational-wide technology platforms for project management, team collaboration, task management, internal communications and file sharing, employee engagement, performance development, and expense management. Relevant technology platforms we use organizationally are: MacOS, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint), Google Workspace, Zoom, Hive, Jostle, Quantum Workplace, BambooHR, Bill, Bloomerang, and Salesforce.
- You have experience living or working in a developing country or cross-cultural setting.
- You have the ability to listen, synthesize, and develop ideas and information, and have good follow through.
- You approach team-based work as a servant leader.
- You understand what it means to be a small-scale farmer in the developing world.
- You have proficiency in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, French, Swahili, Amharic, Thai.
- You are competent in using Salesforce or other donor database systems (CRMs).
- You have demonstrated experience in project management software (e.g. Hive).

LEGAL INFORMATION THAT WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE CONTRACT
- This role is a short-term (~12-month) independent consultant engagement
- Upon decision, Plant With Purpose will send consultant a contract for signature
- Consultant will be expected to complete a W9, and will receive a Form 1099-MISC in January if paid over $600 in the calendar year
- Consultant will be expected to use their own software, computer, and other items necessary to complete the job
- Plant With Purpose will own full rights (for use, editing, etc) of all work product
- Payment terms will be negotiated during the offer conversation.
TIME FRAME
This engagement’s start date will begin as soon as we find the most qualified candidate. Exact end date will be no later than June 30th, 2025.
