The Global Green Growth Institute internship program (also called “Grow Green” Program) provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented and motivated individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGI’s operations. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. GGGI’s Internship Program is a project-oriented learning opportunity for students and recent graduates (within the last 12 months) to gain experience through specific assignments based on GGGI’s current operational needs. GGGI welcomes motivated, open-minded, and self-directed individuals to apply. You will be given an opportunity to work directly with outstanding and inspiring Green Growth professionals, participate in workshops and meetings, and contribute to analytical work as well as innovative rethinking on green growth.

 

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to work with us for the GGGI Jordan Country Office and provide substantive support to the program.

In Jordan, GGGI serves as an embedded strategic and technical advisor to the Government, supporting the Ministry of Environment and other national institutions (line ministries, municipalities, and national finance institutions) with enhancing access to climate finance and achieving implementation of the Green Growth National Action Plan (GG-NAP) and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDCs). To achieve this objective, GGGI is currently implementing a growing portfolio of projects including the “Creating sustainable green jobs for refugees and host communities through the green economy in Jordan” project, as well as initiatives in sustainable transport, climate finance, and circular economy.

The intern will support the team in collecting and analyzing data, modeling, drafting reports, and providing other project-related support, mainly in the area of green job creation. More specifically, the assignment will include the following but not limited to:

  • Conduct literature reviews and analytical research in support of the delivery of knowledge products;
  • Support drafting and/or editing technical reports to ensure clarity, consistency, and readability for the intended audience;
  • Ensure all references are in order, requesting source information for tables and figures when such information is missing;
  • Proofread the final texts as laid out by the designer to ensure both text and associated graphics are error-free and ready for printing;
  • Organizing, version controlling & archiving documents in a systematic manner;
  • Attending relevant meetings, drafting minutes, and ensuring timely clearance and distribution;
  • Perform other related duties if required.

 

The position can be based either at GGGI Headquarters in Seoul, Republic of Korea or in Amman, Jordan. Travel costs to duty station will not be covered by GGGI.

 

ELIGIBILITY                                   

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.
  • Possess an excellent command of English.

 

QUALIFICATION
  • Academic background in economics, climate change and sustainable development, public policy, international development studies, environmental policy, or a related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn various topics of sustainable development.
  • English is the working language of GGGI. Excellent English communication skills, particularly writing and/or editing experience in one or more fields related to green growth or international topics in a professional context.
  • Proven computer literacy in standard office software applications, standard Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Economic modelling skills will be considered an advantage.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds and time zones.
  • Ability to work in the Jordan time zone upon request.
  • Proficiency in Arabic will be a plus.

SELECTION PROCESS
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • GGGI evaluates applications based on eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.
  • Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months.

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.  

Visa: Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.  

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.  

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.  

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.  

Working Hours: Interns are expected to work during normal working hours of the selected duty station and may at times be required to be available on Jordan time zone. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: Before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

Certificate: Provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
