Landscape Foreman

Supervises: Senior Field Crews; Crew Leaders and Crew Members

Job Overview: 

The Landscape Foreman is responsible for the construction and maintenance of stormwater management and landscaping projects, including conservation landscapes, rain gardens, tree planting projects, etc. completed by the EcoWorks’ permanent Senior Crew. The Landscape Foreman works with the Project Manager, Programs Foreman, and Operations Team to plan, facilitate, and implement the coordination and logistics of daily work. They also support business development and a broader scope of site assessments and project planning with the rest of the Operations Team. The Landscape Foreman tracks, records, and reports on hours worked as well as, materials, tools/equipment inventory, and metrics for completed projects. The Landscape Foreman ensures that high quality projects are produced safely and on time. The Landscape Foreman coordinates workflow for the crew leaders and crew, providing detailed work plans and daily on-site guidance and support. Also, the Landscape Foreman communicates production goals to the crew leaders/crew and communicates crew needs to the Operations Team as appropriate. This role ensures that team members have the skills and training to complete assignments safely, correctly, and on time.

Responsibilities & Duties:

• Provide crew training and oversight on project implementation ensuring crews perform their tasks in a skillful, safe and timely fashion
• Conduct performance evaluations for direct reports and other supervisory duties such as performance management, managing incidents, personal / professional development, etc.
• Create and communicate daily and weekly workplans to the crew(s)
• Plan, execute and assess day to day activities of the crew to ensure adherence to project schedule
• Support the creation of individual project plans
• Coordinate availability and transport of crew members, materials, plants, tools (resources) to job sites and organize resources during project life cycles
• Check in with Crew Leaders on-site during each day to ensure that crews are meeting goals
• Oversee clean-up of job sites and proper disposal and storage of materials
• Supports QC of completed projects
• Along with the Project Manager, communicates project updates to customers
• Communicate daily field progress and/or problems to Project Manager
• Ensures maintenance and upkeep of EcoWorks’ tools and equipment, replacing broken tools as needed
• Responsible for tool/equipment inventory management
• Shares responsibility for vehicle inspections/servicing/maintenance with Operations Team
• Ensures security and cleanliness of Howard EcoWorks physical spaces, property, and other materials by implementing daily security routines
• Monitors weather and ensures conditions are safe to begin daily work for crew leaders, crew, volunteers, and others located at project sites.
• Establishes and enforces field-related safety and emergency management policies
• Assist in construction and maintenance as needed
• Manage Crew timesheets and time-off requests

Qualifications & Requirements:​

• Must be 21 years of age;
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record;
• Must be able to drive personal vehicle daily, with mileage reimbursement;
• Able to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds;
• Must be dependable;
• Strong leadership, communications and process improvement skills;
• Experience in landscaping or environmental field work, particularly construction and maintenance;
• Experience supervising / managing employees; and
• Must be able to safely and effectively operate a truck with a utility trailer.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to obtain DOT medical examiner certification
• Experience driving a truck and trailer
• Passion and/or interest in the outdoors
• Passion for conservation, restoration and environmental issues
• Flexible with changes in day-to-day tasks

Wage: $41,000/yr

Job Timeline:

• Position is full-time for 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Weekend work opportunities may be available, but are not mandatory.  Work in the field is weather-dependent.  Indoor training and professional development opportunities may be offered on bad-weather days, if possible.
