Job Description

As we continue to grow and strengthen our Department, we are seeking to make an appointment, at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, in the area of Digital Products and Industries. Candidates will be striving to become scholars of international standing with a research and publication trajectory that illustrates this ambition. This post is an opportunity for a qualified individual to play a major role in shaping our vision of a diverse and innovative Department of Digital Humanities at one of the most prestigious universities in the UK.

We welcome applications from candidates with a strong research profile in relevant areas, such as, but not limited to: design-led methodologies; user interface design and user experience; design principles and best practices in digital products; design-led digital ethnography; software development lifecycle and project management in digital humanities; digital product development for cultural heritage; digital products/industries and the Global South. We would also appreciate an interest in linking theoretical approaches with forms of digital practices, policy, civic engagement, or industry.

Key responsibilities of the role are to deliver high-quality research and education, to contribute to the future development of the department, and to participate in a supportive, collegiate culture. There will be opportunities to be responsible for aspects of departmental administration. Mentorship will be provided to enable the postholder to gain experience and develop professionally.

The postholder will be encouraged to develop their own research interests, to secure research funding through grants, to develop collaborative links within academia and industry, and to participate in the activities of one or more of our Faculty centres or research groups: King’s AI Institute, Digital Futures Institute, Centre for Attention Studies, Creative AI Lab, Centre for Digital Culture, Global Digital Cultures Research Group, Queer Research Cluster, or Computational Humanities Research Group.

The role holder will enhance the education and experiences of our students, both for our fast-expanding MA/MSc programmes and the BA in Digital Media and Culture, teaching engaging, up-to-date courses and contributing to the development of our curricula and teaching methods.

We particularly welcome applications from members of under-represented communities, and from those who are willing to contribute to our ongoing conversations about reducing inequality at King’s.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post.

Key responsibilities

  • Undertake a programme of original research at a level commensurate with international standards.
  • Enhance the research profile of the Department by producing high-quality publications and conference presentations.

  • Undertake supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students.

  • Contribute fully and conscientiously to administrative and leadership tasks in the Department of Digital Humanities, as directed by the Head of Department.
  • Undertake pastoral support of students, including personal tutoring.
