This position is responsible for the conservation and management of unique natural communities and rare, Threatened or Endangered species, primarily within the central region of Maryland, and for statewide guidance on the conservation and management of natural communities and other areas of specific expertise. This work requires familiarity with all factors which determine environmental threats to specific ecosystems and species, as well as a general familiarity and experience with terrestrial and wetland habitats throughout the region.
The incumbent carries out inventory, monitoring, stewardship, and research activities to support the conservation and management of rare species and natural communities. The incumbent ensures that these activities are consistent with the goals of the Natural Heritage Program and those of the WHS and Department and that they are scientifically sound, including the application of standard methods of vegetation sampling, mapping, and classification; the statistical analysis of field data; and the management and development of information on ecological communities.
This position also provides technical assistance to the Program, other units within the Department and, where appropriate, other state and federal agencies and nongovernmental organizations, in such activities as the development of conservation plans, habitat protection, ecological restoration, land management and stewardship, environmental review of proposed land use activities on public and private lands, and public education.
Office Location may be flexible and remote work is allowed. Maryland’s Central Region includes Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Harford, Howard, and Montgomery Counties.
Starting date flexible, but hopefully between 3/20/3034 and 5/15/2024
