Medical Records Specialist – Temporary

The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for organizing, maintaining and protecting all participant health information. The Medical Records Specialist also ensures medical records systems are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with all regulatory and programmatic requirements.

Temporary Assignment: This position is intended to provide temporary coverage for an employee who is currently on leave. The assignment is expected to run from June through August, but the end date may be adjusted based on the employee’s return date and organizational needs.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Ensures that Participant medical records are accurate, complete, and up to date.
• Requests participant records as directed. Tracks to confirm receipt of all requested records and collates external records into the participant’s electronic health record (EHR) and routes them to appropriate staff.
• Collaborates with On Lok HIM team to maintain continuity of the EHR program/system and to follow established medical record-keeping standards and processes.
• Maintains compliance with state, federal and programmatic requirements, including comprehensive knowledge of documentation regulations and requirements and serves as a resource for other staff.
• Protects the confidentiality of participant information in accordance with state, federal, and programmatic requirements.
• Maintains, prepares, and generates data for practice management and quality improvement initiatives.

• Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports and supports the PACE program with ad hoc reports, as needed.
• Fulfills all medical records requirements for the IOA home health agency.
• All other reasonably related jobs as assigned.

EDUCATION:

• Required: High school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred: Completion of a postsecondary certificate or Associate’s Degree in Health Information Technology (HIT), Health Information Management, or a related field from an accredited institution
• Two years of college, combined with at least two years of medical office, medical records or health related experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
• Certification (Preferred): Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS).

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

• Proficiency in oral/written English skills required.
• Ability to type 50 wpm accurately with strong math aptitude.
• Flexibility, creativity and ability to work under stress to meet reporting deadlines.
• Able to work independently and work with an interdisciplinary team.
• Willingness to work within a multicultural, multilingual setting.
• Evidence of creativity, flexibility and professionalism.

COMPENSATION:

Range: $29 – $34/hourly

This amount is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, nor a promise of any specific pay for any specific employee, which is always dependent on actual experience, education and other factors.

This range does not include any additional equity, benefits, or other non-monetary compensation which may be included.
