POSITION SUMMARY

HIAS Greece seeks an experienced MHPSS Coordinator to lead the MHPSS team in Athens and Lesvos. The Coordinator will lead in coordinating MHPSS programming, working closely with their HIAS Greece counterparts to support ongoing operations and ensure that HIAS MHPSS programming is responsive. This includes monitoring and supporting technically existing activities, rolling out training in MHPSS topics, supporting MHPSS service mapping and strengthening referral pathways for those with MHPSS needs. The MHPSS Coordinator will also oversee MHPSS program development, including proposal development, potential expansion of the MHPSS team, monitoring and evaluation of MHPSS activities, and reporting. This position will also provide overall technical oversight of quality MHPSS services, including training, supervision, and monitoring of implementation of activities and interventions. This position will work within the framework of the IASC guidelines for mental health and psychosocial support in emergency settings, Sphere standards, and the HIAS MHPSS operational framework. This position will also work collaboratively with other agencies in Athens and Lesvos and international and other relevant stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinate and implement long-term MHPSS programming for Athens and Lesvos, Greece, including strategy development and ongoing monitoring of the program
  • Coordinate a multidisciplinary team
  • Provide technical support and liaise closely with a multidisciplinary team, including economic inclusion and legal aid colleagues.
  • Coordinate with local NGO partners and relevant government focal points for the implementation and monitoring of MHPSS projects
  • Prepare and implement MHPSS and other relevant emergency psychosocial support skills training
  • Support the development of the MHPSS program by Identifying potential gaps and needs of persons of concern and contributing to the project proposals

• Work within the framework of IASC guidelines for mental health and psychosocial support in emergency settings and Sphere Standards

• Represent HIAS as requested in various working group meetings

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• An advanced degree or higher in psychology, mental health counselling, social work, or another relevant field, with knowledge of humanitarian issues, human rights, international development, public health, or another relevant field.

• A minimum of 4 years of relevant MHPSS experience in humanitarian settings, preferably working with refugees and/or forcibly displaced populations.

• Knowledgeable in and has used the IASC MHPSS guidelines and best practices as part of previous work experience.

• Demonstrated technical expertise in the assessment of design and delivery of responses to pre-existing and emergency induced MHPSS needs

• Demonstrated understanding of core MHPSS interventions utilized in emergency settings (e.g., WHO scalable mental health interventions, Psychological First Aid)

• Demonstrated experience in training and supervision of multi-disciplinary teams

• Familiarity with needs-based participatory approach; experience with engagement with communities

• Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, ethnicity, and age sensitivity and adaptability.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work on own initiative but also as a member of a team

• Proficiency in English and Greek, both written and oral
