Under the direct supervision of the Private Sector Partnerships Section Chief, and in close collaboration with all other relevant UN Women business units – including all regional and country offices – the Private Sector Partnerships Portfolio Specialist will be responsible for developing and managing portfolio of partnership accounts under PSP’s management, providing global partnership building and coordination support, managing strategic relationships with corporations, UN Women country and regional offices, National Committees , and, monitoring and reporting on donor relations in line with UN Women’s Private Sector Engagement Strategy.
Key Functions and Accountabilities:
Develop and manage a portfolio of partnership accounts under PSP’s management:
- Under the umbrella of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), develop, manage, and coordinate relationships with UN Women’s key partners—particularly those involved in the UN Women special initiatives Unstereotype Alliance and HeForShe.
- Research potential partners, develop intelligence analysis materials, and provide sound analysis to support strategic planning, outreach, and the development and growth of corporate and foundation partnerships.
- Contribute to fundraising strategies and approaches, with a particular focus on expanding the Unstereotype Alliance and HeForShe initiatives.
- Provide technical support to the PSP Chief and other senior managers in the preparation of missions, meetings and other consultations with donors, including the preparation of notes, briefs and other materials;
- As part of the PSP’s biannual work plan (BWP) exercise, set and monitor annual priorities, goals, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for partnerships.
- Conduct ad-hoc donor studies, research, and other activities to identify funding opportunities for Unstereotype Alliance and HeforShe initiatives in particular; and update the resource mobilization strategy as needs arise.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the UN Women Private Sector Engagement Strategy, in alignment with UN Women’s Strategic Plan 2022-2025 and in support of UN Women’s new Strategic Plan 2026-2029.
Manage, and facilitate the implementation of UN Women’s Private Sector Engagement Strategy and initiatives for the private sector:
- Coordinate implementation of the UN Women’s Private Sector Strategy and its relevant initiatives with leading global corporations and UN Women country and regional offices and National Committees.
- Provide technical support in developing project proposals that align with UN Women’s strategy and the interests of donors.
- Cultivate new private sector partnerships while strengthening existing relationships and maximize partnership impact through events and stakeholder engagement platforms.
- Manage the development and implementation of targeted donor strategies, ensuring alignment with UN Women’s and PSP’s overall initiatives and outreach efforts.
- Promote PSP and UN Women in corporate fundraising initiatives to drive revenue growth.
Advise on and provide guidance on private sector engagement and outreach across UN Women teams:
- Work in close collaboration with Strategic Partnerships Division, UN Women Programme and Policy Division, Regional and Country Offices, Trust Funds and UN Women National Committees to identify and position UN Women’s core and non-core special initiatives (WEPs, Unstereotype Alliance and HeforShe) for corporate support and partnerships – providing expertise and guidance to engage and secure maximum commitments.
- Work in close collaboration with other members of PSP to ensure a strategic, comprehensive and coordinated approach that facilitates large-scale, collaborative multi-stakeholder support and resource mobilization growth from corporations and governments.
- Provide inputs and feedback to the development of Country Office Strategic Notes, specific to development and growth of partnerships with the private sector in line with the Private Sector Engagement Strategy and special initiatives implementation.
- Provide guidance on engagement with private sector partners to all UN Women teams, including regional, country offices, Trust Funds and UN Women National Committees, on building and maintaining partnerships and positioning with potential donors, including through systematized tracking of the information across the organization and by providing updated partner intelligence and Due Diligence advice in coordination with the Due Diligence Team.
- Guide and facilitate UN Women’s National Committees engagement with corporate partners, and philanthropic foundations for UN Women’s programmes as relevant to special initiatives.
Build trust and maintain effective relationships with donors:
- Act as a direct entry point for partners and build institutional relationships for Unstereotype Alliance and HeForShe initiatives;
- Provide regular updates on partners profiles, databases (e.g. contacts management) and donor intelligence;
- Identify opportunities to secure additional core and non-core resources;
- Provide technical support the drafting and review of partner-specific Framework Arrangements and Cost Sharing Agreements; and the preparation of brief funding proposals and concept notes, where appropriate.
Participate in capacity and knowledge building:
- Advise and support UN Women Regional Office and country offices on resource mobilization procedures and guidelines as well as funding modalities;
- Contribute to the development of knowledge products and mechanisms to effectively position UN Women wherever possible;
- Share knowledge and enhance organizational learning among UN Women teams through the development and use of on-line tools, templates, tips, mechanisms and guidelines, and by participating in regular learning cafes and webinars;
- Monitor emerging issues that could affect partnerships and resource contributions at the national or regional levels (risk management).
- The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Recruitment Qualifications:
Education requirement:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, business management, social sciences, public administration, international relations, communications, women’s studies, or a related field is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience requirement:
- At least 5 years of experience working in the field of partnership development, coordination and resource growth.
- Experience in coordinating engagement with multi-stakeholder partners and dealing with different constituencies, including governments and private sector is required.
- Experience in providing direct support for development of resource mobilization strategies related to gender equality and women’s empowerment is required.
- Previous experience with a multilateral or UN organization is desirable.
- Experience in gender equality issues is highly desirable.
Language requirement:
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
