Photon Detector R&D Specialist

The CERN EP Detector Technologies group is renowned for its expertise in the development, characterization, and maintenance of large-scale detectors, such as the Ring Imaging Cherenkov system of LHCb instrumented with advanced photon detectors. You will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of photon detection, working on both commercial and custom devices. This role also involves active participation in ongoing R&D programmes focused on vacuum and solid-state photon detector technologies, as well as contributing to the next generation of detector upgrades.

Key Responsibilities:

• Characterize and assess both commercial and custom photon detector devices.
• Contribute to CERN’s R&D programmes (EP R&D and DRD4) focused on photon detector technologies.
• Oversee the maintenance, supervision, and enhancement of laboratory facilities dedicated to photon detection research.
• Support advancements in picosecond timing operation for photon detectors in preparation for future large-scale detector upgrades.

• Experience with the field of photon detectors.
• Experience with laboratory activities and related measurement apparatus, control software, readout electronics and analysis software (root or equivalent).
