Context Presentation:
Un Ponte Per (UPP) is an Italian NGO established in 1991. It started its activities as “Un ponte per Baghdad”, in the aftermath of the first Gulf war, with the aim of organizing solidarity initiatives in support of the Iraqi civilian population. In subsequent years, UPP missions expanded to include Serbia and other Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. The NGO aims at preventing armed conflicts, protecting human rights and supporting local civil society, especially in the Middle East, by promoting the nexus between its humanitarian, peacebuilding and development programs.
General scope of the position
Under the overall supervision of the Project Manager, the Physiotherapist is responsible for Following medical prescription, plan and carry out individual treatment programs, by assessing patients’ physical state, in order to maintain, improve or rehabilitate the physical well-being of the patient and prevent physical handicaps..The Physiotherapist (PT)will work within the framework of a project funded by the Italian Cooperation Agency (AICS): “Masahat Aamina (Safe spaces): “Spazi protetti per l’inclusione sociale e la protezione integrata delle persone particolarmente vulnerabili tra i rifugiati e le comunità ospitanti in Giordania”.
Job Overview/Summary
UPP’s Physiotherapist (PT) will be based in Amman. Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and with mentoring of a Protection Expert he/she will plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals by assessing, diagnosing, and treating physical impairments, disabilities, and movement disorders. They collaborate with patients to develop personalized treatment plans aimed at restoring, maintaining, or improving physical function and mobility.
UPP and partner CBO protection services in Jordan include case management; structured PSS; capacity building of service providers and local governmental stakeholders; raising awareness on GBV, child protection risks; life-skills for adolescents and caregivers and conversation clubs for women and girls with disabilities delivered directly by UPP and local partners. UPP and partners also implement complementary health/rehabilitation activities such as distributions of mobility aids for persons with disabilities, one-shot cash assistance and livelihood opportunities for the most vulnerable.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Un Ponte Per is looking for one Occupational Therapist (OT) that will be responsible of the following major tasks:
Main responsibilities:
- Assess patient physical capacities, using different procedures (e.g. functional capacity tests) to set up treatment objectives with the patient and therefore improve the patient’s health and well-being.
- Elaborate and implement physiotherapy programs, including physiotherapy exercises, manipulations, massages, education, utilization of physiotherapy devices and orthopaedic equipment, educating and advising patients and their careers on how to prevent and/or improve conditions, to accelerate and improve activity results.
- Train patients and caretakers on how to avoid injury to create preventive behaviours.
- Actively monitor and report physiotherapy activities (correctly filling in patient files, forms, statistics, and reports) and analyse these statistics to improve quality service, preserving patient’s data traceability.
- Take care of physiotherapy equipment, managing the stock, making orders according to activity and cleaning up the equipment, to ensure its continuous availability and quality of service.
Report to the technical referent any problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines in order to implement the appropriate measures.
- Refer cases for psychological support or PSS, if necessary, after obtaining informed consent from the patient.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy or a related field.
- Working or volunteering experience in a similar position.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
UPP requires criminal background check certificate (released max 3 months before the date of job offer) to confirm a job offer. We are aware that in some countries the release of criminal background certificate by the competent authorities might require several weeks. DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in main donors funded project (EU, UN, AICS, etc.).
- Experience in Emergency projects management.
- Knowledge of the Middle East context and relevant local actors.
- Knowledge of Italian is an asset.
