About the role

The Prevention Coordinator: Education will contribute to the prevention of gender-based violence. This role is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of our Modelling of Respect and Equality (MoRE) in schools program, supporting teachers in over 240 schools in Victoria.

The role involves applying knowledge and expertise in facilitation and group work to deliver engaging and effective workshops in the to a range of audiences including diverse communities across school settings. The role will also contribute to our knowledge base in gender-based violence prevention to enhance our programs and solidify our leadership in evidence-based approaches to addressing the drivers of gender-based violence particularly stereotypical masculine norms.

About the program

The Men’s Project is an initiative of Jesuit Social Services launched in 2017. It provides leadership on the reduction of violence and other harmful behaviours prevalent among boys and men, and builds approaches to improve their wellbeing and keep families and communities safe.

Our vision is for good men, respectful relationships and safe communities.

We will achieve this by:

  • research to understand the behaviours and underlying attitudes of men and boys including related to violence, child sexual abuse and the well-being of men and boys themselves.
  • promoting positive change around gender norms related to what it means to be a man in the 21st century as well as building skills to intervene to prevent violence; and
  • developing innovative ways to stop cycles of violence and harmful behaviour among boys and men.

The Men’s Project builds on Jesuit Social Services’ over 45 year engagement with boys and men in trouble, but it also involves us leading new work to reduce violence, to improve the wellbeing of boys and men, and to keep families and communities safe.

About you

This role will suit a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  1. Experience in delivering prevention programs – or transferable skills engaging with student, teachers and parents in a school setting
  2. Skills and experience in facilitation, public speaking / presentation and related content development
  3. Knowledge of family violence prevention and masculinities, and a commitment to gender equality and the prevention of men’s violence against women and children.
  4. Knowledge in one or more of the following: teaching and learning frameworks, education policies, trauma informed practice and child and adolescent development.
  5. Highly organised and skilled in managing multiple priorities, including managing a number of stakeholders and concurrent projects.
  6. Qualities and capabilities that demonstrate curiosity and creativity, with an ability to think innovatively and be proactive.
