Job Description

AECOM is in need of a Project Planner/Scheduler to work with our client TTC on some of their high-profile public Transit projects.

The job incumbent will be offered a regular, full-time position with AECOM and work on secondment to TTC. Candidate will report for work at the TTC office a few times a week for the length of the secondment. After the secondment is compete, the employee will return to AECOM to be re-assigned to another project. The home office for the employee at that time can be either the AECOM Markham or Whitby office (with work from home options available also.)

Job Summary:

Provides project management support by establishing, monitoring and updating multiple project schedules through the planning, design, procurement, construction and testing/commissioning phases. Uses standard scheduling techniques in accordance with established procedures.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of project planning and progress measurement, ensuring that project procedures and best practices are applied

  • Schedule planning, developing and maintaining the project Master schedule to meet the project objectives, schedule basis, managing the progress measurement and earned value, schedule reporting, schedule change implementation and developing and maintain the schedule management plan

  • Build detailed project schedules using CPM method/standard activity coding and work breakdown structures, by identifying tasks/activities, sequencing work packages/activities, developing network models, preparing logic diagrams, estimating activity duration, and establishing critical path and project duration.

  • Perform schedule control by determining critical path analysis, planned value, earned value, schedule variance, schedule performance indices, and schedule risk analysis, and recommend corrective action when required.

  • Update project schedules to reflect progress against project plan and prepare management reports. Provide schedule information to the Project Controls Analyst for preparation of various project reports including project status reports.

  • Attend design and construction review meetings and contributing to the design and construction process affecting timing, sequencing, and staging of contracts.

  • Review, analyze, and comment on the Contractor’s scheduling submissions as requested, prior to approval.

  • Visit sites to ascertain scope and staging of projects prior to tendering and during the construction phase to review progress.

  • Prepare cost-loaded schedules on selected projects with data as supplied by the project team.

  • Provide specialized scheduling services, such as evaluation of alternative construction scenarios, recovery schedule, time impact and delay claim analysis.

  • Provide review, analyze, and evaluation of construction claims, their validity and assess schedule impacts due to changes/claims.

  • Monitor schedule compliance and report to the project team regarding deviation from approved project schedule developed upon completion of scope definition.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a minimum:

University degree in a related discipline (e.g. project management, scheduling, engineering, construction), + 4 (four) years of related experience in planning and scheduling the engineering/design/procurement of large capital construction projects.

A combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent may be considered.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Formal training/certification in project management is considered a definite asset.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of practices and procedures involved in the scheduling function, with proven experience in the construction process and technology.

  • Hands-on experience in planning and preparing logic diagrams, critical path networks and bar charts, with particular emphasis on detailed construction schedules.

  • Demonstrated experience in claims management

  • In-depth knowledge and experience with computer-based scheduling systems (Primavera P6, MS Project, Tilos) and other computerized applications related to the work such as Microsoft Excel (pivot table, vlookup, charts, etc.).

  • Ability to receive and analyze information from numerous sources; sound judgement; strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Sound understanding of basic engineering and construction methodologies; ability to read construction drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to apply analytical skills; plan and organize activities / projects to meet section and organizational goals; manage projects; maintain documentation and historical records; use office technology, software and applications.

  • Relocation is not available for this position.

  • Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Salary range for this position is: $67,000 – $120,000 .
