About the position: The mission of the Protection Technical Advisor role at Americares is to elevate and strengthen the practice of programmatic protection mainstreaming within the organization. This position is dedicated to establishing and maintaining structures that promote the integration of protection across programs. The position enhances access and inclusion of community members and patients in program design, implementation, and evaluation. The advisor plays a pivotal role in internal staff capacity building on protection, developing and implementing a comprehensive knowledge management and capacity strengthening strategy, aiming to foster a culture of programmatic protection awareness (inclusion and protection lenses) and competence among Americares teams worldwide. The impact of this role will be to ensure best standards for protection are integrated across Americares programming.

Key Outcomes:

In the first year, the Protection Technical Advisor will:

· Serve as a model for Americares values.

· Integrate protection considerations in programmatic portfolios.

· Develop action plans for protection mainstreaming with country programs, emergency responses and across global programs.

· Lead the development of a comprehensive programmatic protection strategy.

· Establish effective learning and sharing platforms for protection.

· Conduct training sessions and create accessible reference materials.

· Incorporate best practices into monitoring and evaluation processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Operationalization of Programmatic Protection and Inclusion Mainstreaming:

· Spearhead the advancement of mainstreaming protection and community inclusion across a range of programmatic portfolios providing technical input into programs and responses.

· Partner with country programs and emergency response to create country and culture-specific action plans for protection mainstreaming.

· Work closely with technical and country team leaders to promote the centrality of protection in achieving project goals.

· Lead the development of a protection strategy across the organization.

Organizational Capacity Strengthening:

· Coordinate with the Technical teams, Global Programs and Emergency Programs colleagues and across departments and countries to identify entry points for protection mainstreaming initiatives within country teams.

· Develop an approach for knowledge management and capacity strengthening to facilitate protection mainstreaming.

· Establish and maintain learning and sharing platforms for technical teams within the organization.

· Organize and facilitate training sessions, webinars, and train-the-trainer programs on protection and community inclusion mainstreaming best practices.

· Create and maintain accessible reference materials for easy use.

· Ensure community inclusion, access, and protection aspects in all proposal development, theory of change and budget processes.

· In collaboration with MHPSS and other technical advisors, co-develop protection technical standards, assessments, best practices and capacity building around issues of GBV, human rights / patient rights, RMNCAH and related health and mental health issues.
Coordinate with the departments on related protection efforts as needed.

Monitoring and Learning:

· Collaborate with Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning team to incorporate protection mainstreaming best practices into monitoring and evaluation processes.

· Assess and establish a baseline for protection mainstreaming initiatives in selected country teams, responses and programs.

· Develop measurement tools for tracking Americares adoption of protection mainstreaming.

· Monitor the quality of protection mainstreaming initiatives and create case studies, lessons learned, and blogs for internal communication.

Influence and Representation:

· Support the development of a strategy to consistently promote community inclusion and protection mainstreaming across Americares.

· Represent Americares at internal and external events (including with strategic partners and donors) and forums to showcase protection mainstreaming efforts and share lessons learned from partner agencies and technical sectors.

· Conduct assessments, write case studies, learning documents, short articles, and blogs, and develop dissemination plans for internal and external audiences.

These competencies are required for the role:

• Demonstrated experience creating and enhancing protection mainstreaming systems, with extensive knowledge about protection best practices, and their application within humanitarian and development programs (including knowledge of international standards and relevant policies).

· Protection program design and development, most notably for USAID, UN Agencies and/or other multilateral donors.

• Proven ability to develop and implement global capacity-building strategies, training programs, and knowledge-sharing platforms to enhance the organization’s ability to mainstream protection.

• Proficiency in developing and executing comprehensive protection and strategies that align with organizational goals and drive measurable impact.

• Strong interpersonal and coordination skills to work effectively with diverse teams, country programs, technical experts, and external partners, fostering a collaborative environment that supports protection mainstreaming initiatives.

• Excellent communication skills to represent the organization in internal and external forums, as well as to articulate the importance of protection mainstreaming and share lessons learned and best practices effectively.

· Proficiency in data analysis and research methodologies to conduct in-depth assessments and research related to protection and inclusion mainstreaming, contributing to evidence-based decision-making.

· Project management skills to efficiently plan, implement, and monitor protection mainstreaming initiatives, ensuring they align with timelines and budgets.

· Technical writing for protection proposals/grants and reports.

· United States, Liberia, Tanzania, and/or Colombian work authorization.

These competencies would be great to have, but are not required:

· Skills for media speaking and external representation at various fora.

· Experience in the health sector including global health and/or public health programs, systems and stakeholders.

· Fluency in languages that are spoken in at least one of our core locations (India, Philippines, Tanzania, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Colombia, etc.), in addition to English.
