This position will be hired at the Immunobiology, Nutrition and Toxicology Laboratory (INTL) under Nutrition Research Division, icddr,b. The Research Officer will report to the Head of the Lab and will be responsible for performing lab related research assays within the guidelines of the research protocol and organizational values. Specifically, s/he will perform the following activities –

• Biological sample receiving, handling, processing and optimum storage of specimens;
• Perform microbiology related experiments using microbiological techniques such as:
  • Maintaining aseptic condition for microbiological assays
  • Simple and differential staining
  • Isolation of microorganisms using
    • Microbial culture
    • Biochemical tests
    • Microscopy
    • Polymerase Chain Reaction
  • Serological testing of microbial isolates
  • Antibiotic susceptibility test
  • Bactericidal assay
• Perform sample preparation for atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) analysis;
• Measure concentration of metals in specimens using AAS;
• Maintain analytical equipment in proper working condition by performing routine maintenance, and troubleshooting malfunctions in instruments;
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for usage of different equipment including CO₂ incubator, ELISA Reader, RT-PCR, atomic absorption spectrometry;
• Prepare report from the results and share with supervisor;
• Optimize or set-up new laboratory methods based on study requirement;
• Train junior team members and lab technician on common lab assignments (basic operational safety procedures in Lab, sample receipt, processing and storage following standard practice);
• Oversee tests done by junior team members;

Required qualifications and experience:

• Masters in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Microbiology/Genetic Engineering from any reputed University.

• At least 3 years of experience in the relevant field. Experience can be relaxed up to 2 years for the candidates having excellent academic background and exceptional work experience in relevant field.

Contract Type and Duration:

• Short Term Contractual Service Agreement basis; duration will be 6 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

• Tk. 59,900/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
• Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
