Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

The position of Senior IT Specialist (AI Engineering) is assigned to the Digital for Development Operations Division (ITOP) within the Information Technology Department. ITD enables ADB’s digital agenda and supports the Bank’s global operations. The department delivers digital innovation, IT infrastructure, services and solutions, and provides tools and knowledge platforms.

You will be based at our Headquarters in Manila, Philippines.

You will report to Director, ITOP and will oversee junior team members.

Your Role

As the Senior IT Specialist (AI Engineering), you will collaborate with teams, including product management, design engineering, and data science, to oversee the full product lifecyclefrom ideation to execution and optimization.

Under the direction of the AI and Big Data Lead, you will manage the AI Engineering Team driving ADB’s AI infrastructure and innovation. You will define the future of AI technologies at ADB, delivering cutting-edge solutions tailored to enterprise needs. Your leadership will set the technical direction and ensure the successful implementation of AI-driven products that align with strategic priorities and create measurable impact for our enterprise clients.

You will:

• Lead the AI engineering team in the design, the development, and the delivery of enterprise-grade AI products and solutions.
• Identify emerging trends and opportunities for innovation within AI.
• Align engineering strategies with business and brand goals, ensuring AI solutions promote value for both our organization and its clients.
• Work with product management, data science, and design teams to ensure seamless integration between product vision and technical execution.
• Provide leadership in making critical engineering decisions, promoting a collaborative and team environment.
• Take ownership of the end-to-end product lifecycle, ensuring delivery from concept to deployment and continuous improvement.
• Lead the technical development of AI systems, with a focus on data integration, model building, and deployment through APIs.
• Embed responsible AI practices into every phase of the product lifecycle from conceptualization to deployment and continuous improvement. Ensure that fairness, transparency, accountability, and privacy are necessary to the engineering process.

Qualifications

You will need:

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field. Alternatively, a university degree and at least 5 years specialized experience relevant to the position can be considered
• At least 10 years of experience in technology roles, with at least 5 years in AI engineeringbuilding, scaling, and managing engineering teams.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing and deploying AI systems and infrastructure at scale, including MLOps, model lifecycle management, and production-grade machine learning platforms.
• Proven track record of delivering AI-powered solutions that create value, with end-to-end oversight of development, deployment, and operationalization.
• Deep understanding of modern AI/ML frameworks, cloud-based AI architecture, data pipelines, and distributed computing.
• Strong grasp of enterprise product development, Agile engineering practices, and user-centric solution design in the context of AI applications.
• Experience working across diverse teams and delivering complex initiatives in global, multi-stakeholder environments.
• Ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholderstranslating concepts into strategic impact and actionable solutions.
• Experience interpreting data trends and research to define AI roadmaps and guide long-term engineering strategy.
• Committed to fostering a culture of innovation, and collaboration within AI engineering teams.
• Passion for staying current with advancements in AI research, tooling, and industry best practices, and applying them to enterprise-scale systems.

Additional Information

This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.

This position is funded by a temporary funding source (e.g., a trust fund, financing facility, or capital expenditure budget) and therefore, the renewal of the appointment and its duration are subject to the availability of the funding source.

This is a fixed term appointment with option to renew, initially for a period of up to 2 years, or up to the Normal Retirement Date (NRD), whichever comes earlier, for the purpose(s) and conditions determined by ADB, in accordance with Administrative Order No. 2.01 (Recruitment and Appointment). After the initial fixed-term period, ADB may choose to renew the appointment for up to an additional 2 years or not renewed. This decision will be made in the overall interest of ADB, based on factors including but not limited to the requirement of Staff’s particular blend of skills and experience for the medium-term work program of the organizational unit, sufficient funding to cover the renewed period, and Staff’s performance and suitability for employment. There is no limit to the number of renewals up to NRD. However, this appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment.
