The European Public Health Association (EUPHA) is an umbrella organisation for public health associations and institutes in Europe. EUPHA has 85 members from 47 countries and brings together around 40,000 European public health experts for professional exchange and collaboration. EUPHA is an international, multidisciplinary, scientific organization that encourages a multi-disciplinary approach to public health.

EUPHA is organiser of the annual EPH Conference, the largest and premier scientific conference on public health in Europe and the annual European Public Health Week, an annual awareness raising event on public health issues in Europe. EUPHA is partner in several EU-funded research projects. EUPHA publishes a monthly newsletter, the European Journal of Public Health, a leading scientific journal in the field of public health, and The Voice of EUPHA, a mailing system reaching policy-makers, media and EUPHA partners.

We are recruiting an experienced Senior Policy Officer to be based at our satellite office in Brussels.

Senior Policy Officer

(Brussels, 32-36 hours per week)

Your job

EUPHA plays an important role in countering disinformation and misinformation on health issues. It is therefore essential that analyses and evidence are presented to policymakers and politicians in a timely and actionable manner. As our Senior Policy Officer you are our key person in putting these analyses on the European political agendas. Our advocacy includes:

  • Monitoring policy processes in order to pro-actively offer relevant, timely, and state-of-the-art evidence to policymakers.
  • Identifying new and emerging topics that require attention, gathering evidence and undertaking scenario exercises.
  • Using compelling public health narratives that effectively reach politicians, policymakers, and the general public.
  • Organising skills-building activities for and with policymakers and politicians.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Representing EUPHA in Brussels by attending meetings and events.
  • Developing and maintaining contact with Brussels-based stakeholders, including EUPHA partners, members of the European Parliament, and European Commission.
  • Identifying interesting opportunities for EUPHA related to European health policy.
  • Following policy and decision-making processes of (public) health related files.
  • Monitoring EU policies, activities and programmes in health and research.
  • Preparing draft statements, press releases, policy briefs, etc.
  • Organising EUPHA events for and with policy makers in Brussels, in collaboration with EUPHA partners.
  • Liaising between the satellite office in Brussels and EUPHA office in Utrecht, Netherlands.
  • Updating the EUPHA office about opportunities in Brussels, e.g. events, conferences, public health files.

Your profile

Becoming successful as Senior Policy Officer means you:

  • Are enthusiastic about our mission and want to contribute to public health in Europe.
  • Have experience with or a solid understanding of EU public, legislative and regulatory affairs.
  • Have experience in lobby and advocacy and dealing with European institutions.
  • Have outstanding communication, English, French, and preferably another EU language skills and can easily build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
  • Preferably have experience working within an international or NGO setting.
  • Have excellent time-management, cross-cultural and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a master’s degree in public health or a related discipline.
