Senior Research Officer

The Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (AdSEARCH) project of icddr,b aims to improve sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outcomes and realize rights among different population groups with distinct SRH needs in Bangladesh. Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), the leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths globally, accounts for nearly 500,000 deaths annually. In late 2010, icddr,b scientists developed and successfully tested a birth mat for the early detection and management of PPH. Under the AdSEARCH project, efforts are being initiated to integrate the birth mat into the National PPH Management Guideline and to demonstrate the updated guidelines in real-world settings.

• The Senior Research Officer will report to the Principle Investigator (PI). He/ She is expected to contribute to public health under the guidance of the PI. Major responsibilities will include:
• Work with principal investigator (PI) in developing research proposals and concept notes in collaboration with colleagues and PIs, and assist in presenting proposals to donors;
• Contribute in developing protocol internally and externally, seek feedback and modify accordingly; and coordinate with the Research Administration (RA) for approvals for research-related activities;
• Prepare detail research design and methodology to achieve the study objectives;
• Implement field activities, provide training and guidance to the field staff during implementation of the study, arrange and facilitate training for the field staff;
• Create detail project plan covering milestones, deliverables etc.; Assign work to team members and initiate activities as per project plan;
• Develop data collection tools, and prepare research communication materials;
• Supervise data collection and perform quality assurance activities, conduct periodic field visits for coordination and mitigating operational challenges;
• Critically assess data quality; Under the guidance of PI apply rigorous scientific analysis to derive meaningful inferences from data;
• Prepare presentation slides and assist the PI in making presentations in different scientific forums;
• Work jointly with PI and other team members to write study reports and develop articles for peer-reviewed journals.

Required qualification and experience:

• Master’s degree in Public Health/Development Studies/Social science from a reputed institute with excellent academic records;
• Minimum 5 years of experience in public health research (preferably in maternal, newborn and child health/ adolescent health /sexual and reproductive health and rights) with strong interpersonal and excellent communication and writing skills in English;
• Must have strong critical thinking skills, ability to identify substantive problems and creative capacity to resolve these problems. S/he should be proactive, dynamic, and capable of working independently;
• Candidates having first-authored publications in international peer-reviewed journals with significant contributions will get preference.
