Overview

This position will lead the work to cultivate, secure and manage strategic partners for the HealthTech Hub Africa (HTHA). This includes designing, implementing and sustaining a robust multi-year partnerships strategy and partner tracking mechanism, representing HTHA in public fora, and managing on-site visits to the Hub by visiting delegations (governments, donors, prospective partners).

The Strategic Partnerships Lead will work under the overall supervision and guidance of the Director, HealthTech Hub Africa, while aligning closely with HTHA’s Government Affairs and Policy Director, the Accelerator Lead and the Jhpiego Rwanda Country Director.

This role will also contribute to donor engagement and reporting, development of HTHA’s long-term sustainability plan, external communications, events planning and management, and monitoring, evaluation and learning.

 

Basic Salary in RWF: 43,076,019 to 58,000,000 per year (subject to taxation).

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Present the HTHA’s vision, program and goals to prospective partners and proactively identify tailored opportunities for collaboration
  • Oversee day-to-day management of HTHA partner relations, including lead generation and tracking and diligent follow ups with current and prospective partners and supply of supporting material as appropriate
  • Manage partner on-boarding and regular communication updates (examples: newsletter/update calls, etc.) to all partners
  • Establish clear systems and processes for partner management, including digital tracking mechanisms
  • Lead management of all partner-related administration, e.g., organizing calls, keeping and sharing meeting notes, updating status of discussions, updating partnership repository, coordinating execution and archiving of MOUs or other contracts
  • Conduct regular, strategic check-ins with active partners to sustain and strengthen relationships.
  • Build relationship with the Norrsken House team and identify creative opportunities for collaboration
  • Design, coordinate and host visits and events of the HTHA anchor donors
  • Lead the design, coordinate and host local and regional events engaging HTHA’s key partners and startups
  • Plan and host external delegations visiting HTHA premises at Norrsken House
  • Prepare partner briefs and other regular updates for HTHA Director and anchor donors
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the HTHA Director and the anchor donors’ focal point on all aspects of partner management
  • Work with core HTHA team to shape HTHA’s partner engagement strategy, partnership archetypes and long-term approach to partnerships
  • Identify and secure opportunities to elevate external awareness about the work of HTHA among key stakeholders, e.g., conferences and convenings
  • Represent HTHA in key internal and external fora, including high-level meetings and conferences
  • Lead all partner-related elements of HTHA’s own Policy Summit and Investor Summit
  • Map and proactively engage with key prospective partners in the health tech ecosystem, fostering relationships across three levels – country, regional and global – in collaboration with HTHA team, implementing partners and donors
  • Develop partner hackathons and other community-building events
  • Build relationships with key partners in Rwanda, helping to secure commitment and approvals from local authorities and partners while focusing on alignment of activities with local priorities.
  • Ensure quality delivery of all agreed in-kind contributions with partners
  • Develop partnership reporting metrices and reporting framework (in partnership with M&E lead)
  • Analysis of the African healthtech ecosystem and HTHA’s relative positioning to identify HTHA’s unique value proposition and subsequent sustainability strategy
  • Support with mobilization of resources to grow and sustain HTHA beyond the initial funding period
  • Identify and broker key growth partners to expand HTHA’s footprint across Africa
  • Lead overall partnership strategy development for the HealthTech Hub Africa, including resource mobilization strategy from anchor and catalytic partners and community building strategy with in-kind partners
  • Develop strategy to maximize the value of the physical event space at Norrsken House for the healthtech start-up community
  • Develop external communications (e.g., webinars, blogposts, articles, podcasts) to share HTHA experience and best practices and position HTHA’s technical expertise, results, and programming excellence

Required Qualifications

  • Min 7 to 8 years of experience in business development/strategic partnerships roles.
  • Experience in the start-up ecosystem, especially healthtech.
  • Communications and event management experience
  • Understanding of the current trends, challenges, and opportunities within the African healthtech sector and the start-up ecosystem.
  • Deep knowledge of the landscape of donors, investors, governments, civil society and academia.
  • Understanding of different funding sources, including grants, venture capital, domestic financing and other in-kind contributions.
  • A dynamic strategist and thinker with strong problem solving and decision-making skills: identifying the problem; locating, gathering, and organizing relevant information; generating alternatives; choosing a solution; implementing the solution.
  • Proven experience in results-oriented relationship management, networking and intelligence gathering.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, business leaders, and donors from diverse cultures.
  • Proven experience and expertise in negotiating terms of partnerships and agreements to secure mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Diligent follow-up and use of clear systems and processes for partner tracking and management.
  • Ability to analyse market trends, stakeholder needs, and the impact of partnerships.
  • Ability to build consensus with stakeholders.
  • Experience in planning or managing community events within the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
  • A team player with strong teamwork skills: identifying team membership and role; establishing productive relationships; meeting team objectives; resolving conflicts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and public speaking, including ability to develop engaging articles and presentations, to confidently host high-level stakeholders and to deliver compelling presentations to an audience
  • Demonstrated superior organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, ensuring that all commitments, goals and deadlines are met
  • English and French bilingual speaker preferred.
