YOUR TASKS

  • In this position, you will support the operation of the anaesthesia and analgesia department of the Department of Small Pets, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine by working in the Clinic Anaesthesia. The main tasks are:
  • Help ensure proper organisation, administrative follow-up and implementation of sedations and anaesthesia in function of the clinic planning
  • Optimising the anaesthetic/analgesic plan for dogs and cats offered for anaesthesia needed for diagnostic and surgical procedures, in consultation with the veterinarians and specialists of the various disciplines
  • Supervise interns and students in sedation/anaesthesia of dogs and cats and in performing anaesthetic procedures (e.g. IV catheter placement, blood sampling, (non)-invasive blood pressure measurement, anaesthesia monitoring, loco-regional anaesthesia, TIVA, recovery follow-up,…)
  • Consultation on postoperative follow-up and analgesic treatments of hospitalised patients with on-call veterinarians or specialists
  • Participating in the anaesthesia on-call service of the Small Animal Section

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • A Master’s degree in veterinary medicine is required. For degrees obtained outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence from NARIC must be submitted. Diploma requirements must be met by date of appointment.
  • Having successfully completed a rotational internship is an added value.
  • Teaching experience and participation in continuing education, conferences etc. on anaesthesia and analgesia of companion animals and related disciplines is an advantage.
  • You have didactic and communication skills.
  • You carry out other professional activities and/or have demonstrable experience that can contribute to the quality of practice-related education.
  • You are interested in a teaching assignment in listed domain.
  • You have an interest in scientific and/or project-based research and service.
  • Considering the job content, there are high expectations in terms of social and organisational skills. The candidate must be able to work as part of a team, to communicate fluently with the owners and with staff from different disciplines and of different levels (specialists, veterinarians, veterinary assistants, technical staff and students), and must have the necessary flexibility and stress-resistance to change the order of tasks according to service needs. Being able to communicate fluently in Dutch or English is also a requirement.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a 1 year appointment, which may be renewed indefinitely for five years at a time. Attention : You cannot be appointed for a cumulative percentage of more than 30% as a Teaching Assistant at Ghent University
  • Your appointment will start on 15 March 2024 at the earliest
  • Your remuneration will be determined according to salary scale AAP3. More information about our salary scales
