About the role

This is a full-time opportunity working 5 days/ week and will be based on site at headspace in the ACT with some flexibility to WFH

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Team Leader to join our Mobile Assessment Treatment Team (MATT), reporting directly to the Operations Manager. This role is critical in overseeing and processing all referrals coming into headspace Early Psychosis, serving as the first point of contact or “front door” for the service. The Team Leader will work collaboratively with their team to assess the suitability of referrals, determine the appropriate stream for assessment, or refer young people to other suitable services.

As a strong clinician with current practice, you will mentor, support, and coach your team, applying robust clinical reasoning. The role requires exceptional skills in risk assessment and management, as well as significant experience in leading teams, particularly within the mental health sector. You will manage a team of up to 10 direct reports.

About the program

headspace Early Psychosis is a youth mental health service offering free and confidential support for young people and their families who are experiencing an early episode of psychosis or are at risk of developing psychosis.

Qualifications

Approved tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline, and provisional or full membership with AHPRA or an appropriate professional body.

About you in the role

  • Lead MATT in processing referrals and determining assessment suitability.
  • Provide clinical mentorship, support, and coaching to team members, enhancing their professional development.
  • Apply strong risk assessment and management skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate in daily morning huddles to review cases, referrals, and the status of young people under the team’s care.
  • Manage a 6–8-week engagement with young people within the team’s care, ensuring effective assessment and follow-up.
  • Facilitate handover discussions between shifts to ensure continuity of care.
  • Support your team to conduct assessments in various settings, including office, homes, schools, and hospitals.
  • Strong clinical background with current practice experience.
  • Proven leadership experience, particularly in managing and supporting teams in the mental health sector.
  • Expertise in risk assessment and management.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
