Main purpose of job:

 This is an exciting opportunity to support Brazilian investors and companies to invest and establish their business in the UK. The successful candidate will be part of DBT Inward Investment Team based in Sao Paulo and is expected to work and perform activities as broadly as described below:

  • Work with Brazilian companies, organisations and associations to deliver an increase in their awareness of the UK as an investment destination and to drive new foreign direct investment from Brazil to the UK.
  • Facilitate investment projects between Brazilian companies and stakeholders driving investment and sustainable development into the UK.
  • Develop and deliver an agenda of impactful activities and projects focused on developing a robust pipeline of Brazilian investors as well as promoting the UK as an investment destination for Brazilian companies.
  • Work across virtual teams (with policy, programmes and commercial colleagues) to deliver investment objectives as part of a cross-country strategy.
  • Your success in this position will be measured on the number and value of direct investment projects assisted to the UK market.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Develop the Inward Investment activities at the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and deputise for the Head of Inward Investment in Brazil.
  • Assist Brazilian companies and entrepreneurs to successfully locate and expand operations in the UK, in partnership with regional agencies and local partners.
  • Build and account manage a strong pipeline of investment projects from key sectors such as Technology, Financial Services, Energy, Creative Industries, and others, specially aligned with the concept of high economic impact investment and the new British Government Industrial Strategy.
  • Monitor pipeline and KPIs with the Inward Investment team to ensure that performance reports reflect accurate business development output.
  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders in Brazil and United Kingdom, such as business associations, commercial chambers, embassies, regional agencies, entrepreneurial groups and other relevant partners.
  • Liaise with senior management team in Brazil and LATAC, UK HQ’s colleagues and UK-based partner organisations to support the Foreign Direct Investment to the UK
  • Organise and support ministerial visits, briefings, trade missions to the UK, events, etc.
  • Work with the Head of Inward Investment in Brazil in providing regular information and reports as requested by the Ambassador, Country Director, HQ Global operations, and senior management.
  • Support the Head of Inward Investment in Brazil to execute and improve aftercare strategy for account managing existing investors, focusing on expansions and retention of investment in the UK.
  • Act as Deputy Head of Inward Investment in Brazil, representing the Investment team at high-level meetings and events, ensuring the team achieves its strategic objectives and results.
  • Work to deliver an annual target of investment projects aligned with the concept of High Value-Added Investments and sector priorities.

Resources managed:

  • The Business Develop manager will report to the Head of Inward Investment and collaborate extensively with UK government teams, including Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Department for Business and Trade (DBT), Science and Innovation Network (SIN), and Embassy teams.
  • Manage budgets, monitor project performance, and ensure effective delivery in collaboration with partners.
  • Contribute to the regional Latin American and Caribbean (LATAC) Investment team in promoting the internationalisation agenda in the region, sharing best practices and common initiatives.
  • Line management of one member of staff

  • At least five years of work experience in a relevant field
  • Some experience in account management and stakeholder engagement
  • Trade and/or Investment experience
  • Experience working in a commercially-focused role

 

  • Experience in project management, team leadership, budget control, and planning
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Desirable market knowledge or project management experiences in sectors such as Financial Services, Technology, Life Science, or Energy

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
