Main purpose of job: 

To support the Chevening Officer in administrative duties and the development and organisation of projects, events and general requirements of the Chevening Scholarships Programme in Colombia. Chevening is the UK’s flagship scholarships programme to enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK.  

One of the Interns’s main responsibilities will be to provide support to the project management, finance and organisation of specific events. In addition, the Intern will liaise with the Embassy’s Communications team to deliver social media campaigns and create internal and external content. 

The Intern will also provide support to the broader Political Section, including attending diplomatic engagement with political figures or external events; providing inputs for political reporting; coordinating weekly political team meetings and/or other meeetings; coordinating with Private Office for possible activities involving the Ambassador or Deputy Head of Mission. 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Arrange the logistics and provision of services (sometimes internally and sometimes with external providers) for Political Section events (including accommodation, transport, catering, audiovisual equipment and any special needs).
  • Liaise with the Communications Team in the production of social media content/campaigns to promote Chevening.
  • Arrange the logistics and services for Chevening events.
  • Deliver all logistics and administrative tasks related to the Chevening Programme, support for the interviews and sifting process and the marketing campaign.
  • Liaise with Comms team for logistics and relevant information for media and external stakeholders.
  • Keep records of suppliers, services and support financial management of specific events.
  • Identify reliable and value for money providers and build up good relationships.
  • Provide general support to the Chevening Officer and Political Team (e.g. logistical support for events and visits, accompanying meetings with stakeholders).

Essential on arrival: 

  • Currently enrolled in the last semesters of university degree in communications, international relations, policial science, education or a related subject with at least 6 months left of studies
  • Available full-time.
  • Responsible, committed to the job.
  • Able to interact and collaborate effectively with different teams.
  • Works well under pressure and against deadlines.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English and Spanish.
  • Event management experience.
  • Knowledge of basic photo and video editing software (e.g. Canva, Kapwing).

Language requirements: 

Language: English & Spanish

Level of language required: Fluency in English and Spanish – at least B2 level according to the CEFR  

Must have the legal status to live and work in Colombia.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and interest in politics and current affairs.
  • Interest in the UK and its work in Colombia.
  • Knowledge of social media.
  • PR & protocol knowledge.

Working hours:

Mondays to Thursdays 8:30 to 17:00
Fridays 8:30 to 13:30

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount. If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate. 

On specific events, candidate might be require to work flexible hours. 

The selected candidate will be expected to develop under the 70-20-10 learning model (70% through experience, 20% by working with others and 10% through formal training).
