Main purpose of job
The British Embassy is seeking to recruit a Creative Campaigns and Communications Assistant, who will join the high-performing Press and Communications Team (PCT) to ensure that the UK achieves maximum positive media and social media coverage in line with British Government objectives and the Embassy’s Communication Strategy. The main tasks of the role include designing and producing original campaigns in the soft power sphere by creating audiovisual assets for internal and external communications to leverage UK cultural influence. Mapping and developing projects, events and collaboration opportunities to raise familiarity with the UK through GREAT campaigns. Support the monitoring of UK and local media to identify relevant stories for the Embassy audience and provide broader support to the team to deliver innovative communications campaigns, media and public diplomacy outreach.
The Embassy has developed an extremely strong digital presence, and the jobholder will also have the opportunity to contribute original content for our permanent communications channels. This is an interesting and varied role, with lots of opportunities to support the wider team and Embassy to deliver innovative communications and support our soft power objectives. All staff are also expected to support the Embassy’s wider corporate environment.
Roles and responsibilities
Working closely with the Digital Communications Manager, Deputy Head of Communications, Head of PCT and wider team, the jobholder will be responsible for:
- Developing campaigns that leverage soft power strategies to enhance the positioning of the UK in Mexico. This includes the creation of impactful assets that align with the BE objectives of building positive awareness on cultural, sporting, music, arts and similar matters.
- Swiftly identifying developing stories that present opportunities or risks to the UK, through regular monitoring of UK and local media including print and digital channels and recommending courses of action.
- Supporting the Embassy in the organisation of events and campaign launches and providing logistical support and content creation.
- The job holder may also have the opportunity to act as the comms lead for a specific area of the Embassy and designing and implementing communications plans for those teams with support from the Digital Communications Manager.
- Creating and distributing reports of their activities to evaluate our impact and identifying opportunities to improve our communications.
- Throughout many of these activities, the jobholder will collaborate closely with teams across the Embassy (e.g., Political Section, Commercial Section, Development Section, Consular Section); partners in Mexico; and UK government press and communications officers in London and the wider UK government network.
- Contribute to the wider Embassy’s public diplomacy work, campaigns, and major events to promote the UK, including supporting communications in a crisis.
- All Embassy staff are also expected to contribute to the wider corporate agenda.

- Undergraduate degree or equivalent professional qualification in communications, marketing, journalism or similar.
- At least 2 years of experience in a communications role.
- Essential strong video editing skills.
- Strong capabilities handling audiovisual equipment such as photo and video cameras and its accessories.
- Experience producing communications materials such as digital media content and/or campaigns, press releases, Op-Eds and media reports.
- Good interpersonal and communications skills, including stakeholder engagement skills to build strong working relationships with colleagues within the UK government network and externally.
- Excellent organisational and self-management skills to respond effectively to deadlines and priorities. Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, this includes planning and managing time, resources and budgets effectively.
- Fluent written and spoken English and Spanish.
- Legal status to live and work in Mexico in your own right, from time of application.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

You will be eligible to an annual Performance Related Bonus. Performance Pay is granted to employees who receive a full year’s performance appraisal and meet or exceed their performance targets.

Working Patterns
38 hour working week from Monday to Friday, with up to two days a week remote (subject to business need). Please note that due to the nature of the role, occasional out of hours work may be required (ex. supporting evening events).
