Who are we?
The Corporate Services Belgium and Luxembourg (CSB) is a joint service providing operational support to the UK Diplomatic Missions in Belgium, including the UK Mission to the EU, the UK Joint Delegation to NATO, and the British Embassy in Brussels. CSB also supports the UK’s Devolved Governments in Brussels, as well as our Embassies in Luxembourg and The Hague. We deliver a broad range of operational and strategic services, including staff management (both locally recruited and UK-based staff), Finance, IT, Security and Transport. In addition, we manage a shared Residence used for high-level official engagements across the UK Missions.
As one of the largest operations within the UK’s Europe Diplomatic Network, CSB plays a key role in ensuring the effective functioning of multiple missions. We are now looking for an HR Advisor to support our operations.

What you will be doing
The HR Advisor will provide operational HR support and advice to Country based staff across the UK Missions. The role includes being the first point of contact for Country Based Staff, communicating HR updates to staff and improving outreach and visibility of the HR function through HR projects.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Deliver regular presentations to Country based staff and others on internal policies and HR rules specific to Belgium, including proactive floor-walking to raise awareness and/or advise Country based staff of HR conditions of service;
- Lead and support HR-related projects aimed at improving service delivery and increasing the visibility of HR across the Missions;
- Review and analyse existing processes and implement improvements;
- Monitor Country based staff recruitment processes in collaboration with the Regional HR Hub;
- Manage induction processes for new Country based staff – support new colleagues, deliver presentations, etc.;
- Streamline and improve current administrative HR processes, including implementing new ways of working;
- Maintain Country based staff database and personnel files;
- Act as the main point of contact for interns, including recruitment monitoring, contract oversight, and close liaison with managers and external stakeholders (e.g. Bruxelles Formation);
- Act as the main point of contact for Country based staff for all questions related to long-term leave (e.g. maternity and birth leave, parental leave and long-term sick leave) and other HR-related queries, escalating to the HR Manager where appropriate;
- Deputise for the HR Manager as required;
- Provide ad hoc support to senior stakeholders in Brussels.

Our Ideal Candidate shows:
- Full professional proficiency in English (written and spoken), with excellent writing skills (minimum C1 level for CEFR framework*); and a good working knowledge of Dutch and/or French (minimum B level);
- Experience supporting HR Operations activities in a professional environment;
- Experience delivering projects in an international environment;
- Some experience working on cases involving interpretation of Belgian labour legislation;
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey information clearly to a range of audiences;
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines;
- A customer-focused and collaborative approach, with a strong team-working ethos;

- Good IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook);

This is a full-time contract for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week. This position will be filled on a “replacement contract” to cover a Parental Leave. It is anticipated that the staff member will return on 18 December 2026. This is only a guide and any possible earlier return or extension to this date would be discussed with the successful candidate.
The monthly gross salary for this position is € 5,685.06, Executive Officer (EO) level. In addition, we offer an extensive salary package, which includes a 13th month, luncheon vouchers, pension scheme, optional hospitalisation insurance (subject to monthly employee contribution), reimbursement of public transport and a lot more. We offer more days of annual leave than the Belgian requirements.
Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
The starting date will be agreed between the parties.
Staff recruited locally by the British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Belgian employment law.
The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
Passport: Officers are expected to be in possession of a passport due to the possibility that they may be asked to undertake business travel.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Belgium and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country.
