The British Embassy in Tel Aviv is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for a Clean Growth Sector Manager. This is a temporary position from the end of July, for six months, to provide cover for maternity leave in a hybrid working environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to join us in promoting UK-Israel tech collaboration through tech partnerships, R&D collaboration, and best practice in the Clean Growth sector.

About the UK Israel Tech Hub (UKITH)

The UKITH was launched in October 2011 at the British Embassy Israel, with the aim of building a UK-Israel partnership in technology. The Hub’s core deliverable is UK-Israel tech partnerships focusing on Health, Climate and Cyber-Fintech. Our Strategic Programmes cut across sectors and reflect our values in Women Leading Innovation, UK-Israel VC Club and Arab-Tech Sector.

The Sector Manager will be responsible for identifying strategic opportunities, maintaining trusting and productive relationships with stakeholders, initiating and organising activities for collaboration brokerage.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the Hub’s Clean Growth (Climate) sector focus – Pursuing tech partnerships between UK and Israeli companies and innovators in the field.
  • Maintain sector expertise and a network of contacts with relevant decision makers, companies, entrepreneurs, experts and investors in Israel and the UK.
  • Ability to understand corporate needs and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Report on sector trends, opportunities to Hub and Embassy leadership
  • Open doors, facilitate introductions and follow up to convert leads into concrete outcomes.
  • Execute activities (i.e. delegations, conferences, networking events) to facilitate collaboration and raise awareness of opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Embassy economic division and external partner organisations on these activities.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

  • BA or equivalent or demonstrated research capabilities.
  • At least three (3) years of experience working in business development, consulting, project management, or similar roles.
  • Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken; Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely.
  • Hebrew, fluently spoken.
  • An acquaintance with the climate, sustainability, Energy / Mobility/Industry 4.0 / Agtech tech / entrepreneurship landscape in Israel.
  • Open and clear communicator with strong presentation skills (oral and written).
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Excellent networking skills including across cultures – a people’s person, charismatic and impressionable.
  • Highly motivated, passionate about innovation and technology.
  • Enthusiasm to work as part of a small, agile, ambitious team – a “start-up within government”.
  • Able to work independently whilst being high contributor in a team environment.

  • Bringing a personal business network from Israel and/or from the UK.
  • Experience in organising events.
  • Track record of success and demonstrated ability to deliver results in a metrics driven environment.
  • Business knowledge of the UK.

Eligibility:

If you are selected for this position, we will be able to employ you as long as you:

  • Receive the appropriate level of security clearance; and
  • Are able to work legally in Israel.

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including the non-negotiable salary of ILS 14,000 per month plus transport allowance and social benefits as required by Israeli law.

No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Parking facilities are not provided nor paid for by the Embassy.

This position is for a full-time employment, on a fixed-term contract for six (6) months, to cover a staff on maternity leave, subject to a 2-month probationary period.

Working hours is 37.5 per week. Normal working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30. This is a hybrid position. We offer a hybrid working pattern with the expectation for our team to be in the office at least two days a week.

The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working outside of normal office hours (evenings/ weekends) during visits and to attend networking events, receptions, and seminars. Any flexible working patterns (such as combination of office and remote working) may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.

The Embassy invests in staff development with a variety of learning and development opportunities.

Process:

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two-three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates’ profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.

Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

The start date mentioned in the job advert is a tentative start date and the successful candidate will be required to undergo security-vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances.
