Main purpose of internship
The role provides the intern with practical experience in managing IT inventory and troubleshooting communication systems, while building the technical proficiency and agility needed for competitive career opportunities.
Roles and responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Information Technology Support Officer, the intern will:
- Collaborate with the ITSO on ongoing projects and daily operations.
- Assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining computer hardware, software, and networks.
- Assist with relocation of heavy equipment (up to 50lbs).
- Provide basic technical support and troubleshooting for staff.
- Participate in system testing, software updates, and implementation of new technologies.
- Help maintain network connectivity, including Wi-Fi setup and troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with ICT policies, data protection, and cybersecurity practices.
Administration
- Design graphical workflows for various Corporate Services Functions.
- Update various internal documents as required.
- Assist with inventory Management (Corporate Office & TWG stores).
- Assist with establishing Records Management System.

- Enroled in or recently graduated from a tertiary or vocational programme in information technology and communication or computer science
- Understanding of computer systems, software applications, and troubleshooting
- Computer skills (proficiency with MS Office, email, online tools)
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work in teams
- Excellent customer service skills
- Willingness to learn
- Comfortable with working in confined spaces
- Ability to work at heights and handle physical equipment (up to 50 lbs/23 kg)
- Ability to work independently

Candidates must have the legal status to live and work in Jamaica at time of application.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.

Working patterns
The internship is in-person and full-time at 39 hours per week. The High Commission’s typical opening hours are Monday – Thursday 08:00 – 16:30, Friday 08:00 – 13:00. In rare instances, out-of-hours work may be required.
