Who are we?
The British Embassy in Athens is part of a world-wide network, representing a wide range of British interests overseas from political, through Economic, consular and Law Enforcement. The Embassy is now looking for a Project Suppot Officer, to work within the Home Office International Operations (HOIO) Team at the British Embassy in Athens.
About the Role:
You will support the delivery, coordination and oversight of illegal migration and organised immigration crime projects, contributing directly to UK strategic priorities. Working within the Home Office International Operations (HOIO) team, you will collaborate across the Embassy network, UK agencies, and local stakeholders to ensure projects are effective, compliant, and aligned with wider policy objectives.
This role also contributes to fostering a positive, collaborative working environment across the Embassy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the design, development and delivery of UK Government-funded projects aligned with OIC priorities
- Work closely with UK partners including Home Office, National Crime Agency, HM Revenue & Customs and Crown Prosecution Service to ensure joined-up project delivery
- Liaise with Greek authorities to identify capability needs and shape collaborative project activity
- Coordinate with policy colleagues to ensure projects align with strategic engagement and policy objectives
- Support procurement and financial management in line with UK Government rules, including handling routine finance queries
- Monitor and report on project progress, impact and financial performance
- Identify opportunities to maximise the use of funding through new project proposals
- Support implementation and adapt project activity in response to emerging priorities and Country Business Plan objectives
- Maintain regular communication with Embassy stakeholders, including the Joint Serious Organised Crime Platform

Our ideal candidate shows:
- fluency at C1 level in Greek and English according to the CEFR Framework*;
-
2–3 years’ experience using IT systems in a professional environment;
- 2 to 3 years’ experience working in comms in a multi-agency environment;
- Good communication and organisational skills;
- IT literacy, a good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint Outlook, Ms Teams and Sharepoint;
- Experience in supporting budget management;
- Flexibility. Occasionally the position may require the job holder to work extended hours or work flexibly, this may include some travel;
- The ability to work effectively within a small team;
- The ability to work effectively as part of the wider embassy structure, in accordance with embassy values, contributing to wider corporate life.

This is a full-time, 12-months fixed term contract, 5 working days, 37.5 hours per week. The working pattern provides some flexibility as per flexible working policy of Mission.
The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, 24 days annual leave entitlement (given pro-rata to staff on fixed-term contracts and/or staff working part-time), a training package and flexible working opportunities. Monthly salary for this position is EUR € 2160.59 gross. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will be welcomed into the wider team in the British Embassy in Athens and will be encouraged to play a part in the corporate life of the Embassy.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background and security clearance. Anyone with right of residence and employment in Greece may apply, including all EU / EEA citizens and the family members of EU / EEA nationals exercising a treaty right in Greece.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy is subject to terms and conditions service according to Greek employment law. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Greece and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
