Main purpose of job:
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the UK government agency that helps foster UK Exports and Inward Investment. DBT officers at overseas posts liaise with the UK headquarters and other departments across the British Government to generate commercial, policy and institutional collaborations in other markets.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on improving bilateral trade and investment between the United Kingdom, LATAC and especially Mexico, through increasing UK exports and inward investment in specific areas outlines in the UK Modern Industrial Strategy.
You will be supporting the team with administrative and back-office help to activities related to trade promotion, market access, marketing intelligence and overseas direct investment, such as pipeline and system entries management, organisation of events, marketing and communications campaigns.

Roles and responsibilities:
- Provide administrative and operational support to DBT Mexico’s export campaigns for Clean Energy and Water, contributing to activities that promote UK exports and strengthen UK–Mexico trade relations.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, pipelines, and activities in internal data systems, supporting reporting and campaign delivery.
- Assist in market research, trade data analysis, and preparation of briefings, visiting programmes, and internal materials to support export promotion.
- Support the organisation and delivery of events, trade missions, meetings, and marketing and communications campaigns linked to export activity.
- Participate in meetings, tradeshows, and external engagements with UK and Mexican companies, supporting opportunity identification and developing professional experience in trade promotion.

- Ability to carry out market research and create professional industry reports with correct grammar and use of the English or Spanish.
- Be enrolled in or recently graduated from a related undergraduate programme (e.g. International Relations, Economics, Administration, International Business, Engineering in relevant field, etc.)
- A strong work ethic, inter-personal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively.
- Excellent customer service.
- Attention to detail.
- High level of competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
- High level of organisational skills.
- Availability to work 25 hours per week.
- Ability to complete administrative and research tasks.
- Ability to work under a deadline and manage your own time.

Candidates must be able to live and work in Mexico in their own right at time of application.
The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
