The British Embassy in Rabat is seeking to recruit a Political Officer (Executive Officer grade) to join the Chancery Team on a part-time basis.
This position is offered on a one-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal. The role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Embassy’s political work and engagement in Morocco within a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Main purpose of the job:
The role will support the deepening of the UK’s bilateral relationship with the Kingdom of Morocco. The job holder will be a crucial member of the Embassy’s Political Team which sits at the heart of the Morocco network and covers our bilateral relationship, internal and external politics, climate, communications, and prosperity work. The job holder will help the Embassy understand the Moroccan domestic economic context, its drivers and the implications for the UK. The job holder will also work to understand and shape investments in Morocco that the UK supports e.g. through World Bank, AFDB and EBRD funding.
Central to the role is an ability to identify connections and opportunities to support UK interests in Morocco. The successful candidate will:

Duties and responsibilities:
The job holder will support policy making by responding to the needs of the Embassy and UK Government stakeholders. You will be responsible for:
- Tracking news developments and relevant policy briefings to provide consistent reporting and analysis, verbally and in writing. This will include economic monitoring and reporting in line with UK interests including explaining the government’s economic decisions and impacts of e.g. energy and commodity prices, subsidies and regional / global developments.
- Contributing to briefings, and programmes, and to the preparation of events such as speaking engagements, roundtables, dinners and receptions.
- Working closely with DBT colleagues (based in Casablanca) to identify where economic developments have the potential to provide opportunities for the UK private sector to generate opportunities for partnership and trade, and conversely where developments are a limiting factor.
- Providing comments and advice on programme proposals, primarily via development bank partners, and ensuring proposals are in line with the Embassy’s objectives.
- Manage bids for programme proposals, and ongoing projects in support of Embassy and team priorities.
- Work with colleagues across the political team on the Women and Girls agenda, to understand and support increased women’s economic empowerment.
- Working with Climate colleagues specifically on the green finance agenda through a combination of awareness raising and technical assistance projects.
- Stakeholder mapping and engagement with Government bodies, international organisations, diplomatic missions, private sector, civil society and analysts to inform analysis, map partner activity and identify areas for collaboration;
- Making a full and active contribution to the Embassy’s corporate agenda, promoting a positive, motivated and inclusive environment for all.
This being a part-time position, it will be especially important to maintain excellent communication with colleagues. We hope to recruit a flexible team-player who can bring expertise to input and contribute to our team’s priorities.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future, and this would be at the discretion of the line manager. - Bachelors/master’s level economics qualification, or other relevant academic background

Working hours and remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of MAD 15,484.00 per month. However, employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
The package includes a good level of medical insurance, 21 days of annual leave (calculated on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays, access to on-site swimming pool, tennis court and gym facilities.
There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
The contract will be for a part-time employment, on a fixed term contract for one year, subject to one (1) month probation period.
Conditioned working hours for the position are 22 hours per week. Normal office hours are from of the Embassy are Mondays to Thursdays from 08:00-16:15 and Fridays from 08:00-13:00. The working hours for this position will be open to discussion with the successful candidate but would ideally be roughly 4.5 hours each day e.g. Mon-Fri 9.30-14.00 (but open to flexible patterns, and possibly some afternoons rather than mornings). Flexible working arrangement may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.
The Embassy and the FCDO have a strong commitment to learning and development, and all staff are required to agree on a learning and development plan with their line manager to keep track of their learning objectives and journey. The jobholder will also be required to undertake a number of mandatory training courses as part of their role.
