Who are we?
The British Embassy in Tbilisi is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and we are now looking for a Security Officer.
Main purpose of the job:
Providing a guarding service that ensures the safety and security of Embassy staff members and visitors, as well as protecting the Embassy building, Ambassador’s Residence and other residential properties.
The Embassy’s Security Officers work as a team with shared responsibilities that follow established procedures for security, but should individually be vigilant to new threats and able to respond confidently to incidents and emergencies. The Security Officers are the first point of contact for all visitors to the Embassy and regularly liaise with staff members on security measures, through clear communication in good standards of English and Georgian.
Roles and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Access control:
- Enforce control procedures for the Embassy compound;
- Conduct searches of individuals, vehicles and packages as required.
Perimeter security:
- Conduct regular foot patrols to identify potential risks;
- Investigate any suspicious item;
- Liaise with the local law enforcements in terms of the Embassy security.
Security monitoring:
- Monitor 24/7 the Embassy’s security systems;
- Support the Embassy’s external security contractor.
Event security:
- Ensure that event preparations and arrangements are carried out in line with the Embassy’s security procedures;
- Liaise with the local law enforcements to maintain a secure external environment during the Embassy events;
Emergency preparedness and response:
- Conduct and maintain reports on the Embassy’s regular alarm testing;
- Provide immediate response to an emergency scenario;
- Provide assistance, liaise with police and alert other staff to the situation, as appropriate;
- Act as the first point of contact for staff involved in an emergency at any location.
Customer service:
- Guide visitors of all levels through the Embassy’s access procedures, providing information and assistance as appropriate;
- Politely redirect to the appropriate contact any in-person visitors whose enquiry is not within the Embassy’s operations (eg. a visa Application);
- Provide staff with timely notice of incidents in the city that could disrupt travel routes between the Embassy and residential areas.
If there is any change to the security situation in Tbilisi, the Post Security Manager (PSM) or shift supervisor may ask the security officers to take on alternative security tasks.
All the Embassy’s security guards receive training in First Aid. Additionally, security officers have the opportunity to stand in for shift supervisors during leave absences.

Essential on arrival:
- Written and spoken fluency in both Georgian at a minimum of C1 level according to CEFR*;
- Written and spoken proficiency in English at a minimum of B1 level according to CEFR*;
- At least 1 year of experience in security (including private sector), Police or Military forces;
- Basic experience with access control, monitoring the CCTV and alarm systems and physical security check;
- Basic IT skills;
- Attention to detail;
- Clear communication;
- Ability to work with others and contributes to a safe and supportive working environment;
- Reliability and professionalism.

This is a permanent, full-time contract of 42 hours per week.
Shifts are as follows: Office hours shifts: 08:36 – 17:00; Day shifts: 08:30 – 20:30; Night shifts: 20:30 – 08:30.
In some circumstances security staff are requested to take on additional shifts due to operational demands or short-notice gaps in team coverage.
The candidate should be available to work day and night shifts for the whole duration of the relevant shift, in line with the standard shift pattern.
There is limited scope for flexible working by individual members of the security team. All members of the security team follow a shift pattern, which in managed by the Post Security Manager.
The gross monthly salary is 2,856 GEL. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax and state pension contributions required by local law.
The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check and security clearance.
Learning & Development: The job holder will receive a full induction into the Embassy security processes on starting the job and will receive additional job-specific training at regular intervals after that. The Embassy encourages all staff to make time for their professional development and to take advantage of the wide package of learning available from formal training courses to job shadowing.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Tbilisi is subject to local Terms and Conditions of Service.
