The British Government’s Consulates in Boston, San Francisco (San Jose office), Chicago, and Houston have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and relationship-focused person to join Scottish Development International’s inward investment team as a Vice President of Lead Generation. This network provides a platform for approximately 30 Government departments and agencies to conduct their work in the United States and is made up of over 900 staff with a rich and diverse background, skill sets, and experiences.

Focused on lead generation within the wider Americas inward investment team, this role will work closely with colleagues across the US, Canada, and Scotland to identify and convert high-potential company leads into viable, high-potential inward investment projects. The role does not have direct line management responsibility but plays a leadership role in driving proactive outreach and supporting sector-focused objectives. Externally, the role engages with senior decision-makers in high-growth companies, while internally it coordinates with industry specialists and strategic partners to align opportunities with Scotland’s missions: Scaling Innovation, Energy Transition, and Capital Investment for Productivity. Success in the role is measured by the volume and quality of qualified leads progressed to the FDI project pipeline.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, persuasive, collaborative, and adaptable, with a track record in B2B business development, sales, or economic development, and strong familiarity with CRM tools and lead management processes.

• Proven experience in lead generation, business development, or consultative sales, ideally in a B2B or economic development context.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to confidently engage senior executives and tailor messages to different audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to manage high volumes of outreach and follow-up activity, while maintaining attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
• Proficiency in using CRM systems (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics or similar) to track, qualify, and report on lead activity and pipeline progress.
• Comfortable working with data to prioritise leads, assess company fit, and support evidence-based decision-making.
• Collaborative mindset with experience working across teams, time zones, and functions to progress shared goals.
• Flexibility to shift focus across multiple industry sectors and adapt messaging to align with Scotland’s economic missions.
