Learning & Development:
The UK Mission Geneva attaches great importance to the learning and development of its staff, with both formal and informal training and development opportunities available for all employees, in line with a personalised development plan. This learning and development offer is facilitated by the Mission’s L&D Committee, and supported by the L&D Champion.
A supervisor will guide the intern and provide on-the-job training and evaluation. Most development opportunities will come through the flow of work and through exposure to the WHO and the World Health Assembly as an integral member of the Global Health Team.
There is plenty of learning and development available in this role, with a generous annual allowance to invest in L&D. The calibre of colleagues and breadth of the mission means there is room for personal growth. You will also have the opportunity to understand and contribute to the corporate life of a busy diplomatic mission.
The internship as a whole will be a learning and development opportunity for the successful candidate, giving them a chance to experience life in a busy multilateral mission and to delve deep into the political and technical issues involved in disarmament negotiations. Continuous on-the-job training, guidance and feedback will be provided by the line manager and other team members. Internship objectives will be agreed between the intern and line manager at the start of the internship, with regular evaluations of progress.
The intern will be required to complete some mandatory online training courses, and will be encouraged to complete additional online training courses when work requirements allow. They will also have access to formal learning opportunities available on the intranet, as well as other sources of training offered to the wider Mission. In addition, interns will have access to a L&D allowance to help support their development needs in the role.
As well as observing and reporting on debates and negotiations, shadowing experienced members of staff at meetings, and generally participating in the life of the Mission, the intern will have the opportunity to establish relationships with members of the disarmament community in Geneva and to talk to visiting officials from London about their work.
