Job description

Due to expansion in our funded Domestic and Family Violence programs we are looking for a Team Leader to join our Domestic and Family Violence, Sexual Assault services in the Mt Isa/Gulf region.

Are you passionate about making communities safer for women and their children? As a Team Leader within our Domestic and Family Violence programs we can offer you an opportunity to work across regional and remote sites throughout northwest Queensland and the lower Gulf. We are looking for an experienced leader, committed to staff development, community engagement and who enjoys collaborating to make a real difference to communities.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this full-time permanent position (based in Mount Isa) you’ll inspire a dedicated team to accomplish ambitious goals for the Domestic/Family Violence and Sexual Assault Services.

As a leader, you’ll contribute to strategies that enhance safety and reduce future risk of experiences of violence through the team’s counselling and case management support for aggrieved adults, children and young people. You’ll be part of our Queensland Programs team and report to the Regional Manager.

You will make an impact by:

  • Leading, developing and motivating a dedicated and driven team
  • Supporting and monitoring the programs to ensure we meet targets
  • Provide evidence-based risk assessment to all referrals received
  • Building relationships with the local community
  • Actively assisting staff to develop case plans, safety plans and providing feedback regularly
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders

Does this sound like you?

You’re an enthusiastic and committed leader who understands that children’s right to safety, survival, development and participation is core to the way we work. You’re active, creative and flexible in your approach to working with families and children, using a trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally sensitive framework within communities working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You can develop and maintain partnerships with external organisations at all levels, and you can supervise, coach and mentor others with an empathetic approach.

This role requires:

  • Experience in conducting safety and risk assessments for DFV and sexual violence
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to build a cohesive and high performing team
  • Experience in building strong networks and partnerships in community
  • Commitment to culturally safe work practices and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate activities
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and de-escalate complex scenarios
  • Current valid driver’s licence

Working at 54 reasons is more than just a job.
