We are now looking for a temporary Political Officer.

Main purpose of job:
The purpose of this role is to identify and deliver opportunities for the UK to improve and strengthen ties with Sweden. The job holder will lead our programme and deliver impactful events that deliver our country objectives. This is a great role for someone seeking to gain experience working in a public sector or diplomatic organisation, with a range of different tasks to deliver.

- Support information gathering and analysis on specific Swedish policy areas of interest to the UK, with a lead responsibility for political reporting and supporting on further files such as the EU, energy and other bilateral matters.
- Help run a programme of funding to help catalyse projects and events. Leading the programme, managing its delivery, monitoring and evaluating projects and ensuring compliance.
- Identify opportunities for increased collaboration between UK and Sweden, devising and delivering projects, and hosting events (including occasionally out of hours) that support our goals.
- Actively contribute to and support the bilateral and wider teams flexibly as required.
- Support corporate objectives as needed, and contribute to embassy life (attending receptions, presenting, engaging in internal committees).

Essential on arrival:
- Fluent level of English and Swedish (C1 or above according to CEFR);
- Excellent communication skills, including an ability to write clearly and concisely, and to persuade and influence orally;
- Caring and considerate team player;
- Self-motivated, proactive person with the ability to organise self and work effectively and think creatively;
- Good research and analysis skills;
- A good awareness of Swedish political issues and relevant stakeholders;
- Flexibility to work outside standards hours occasionally.

This is a full-time, fixed term contract, on a Parental Leave Cover.

Working patterns: British Embassy staff can work one day per week at home in agreement with the line manager. Given the number of events and projects the officer will be delivering, out of hours work will be important. |

This position sits within the bilateral team of three, within our wider political team.
