Who are we?
The British Embassy in Brussels is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are now looking for a Senior Investment Adviser to join the Belgian Investment team, part of the Department for Business and Trade (DBT).
This is a small but dynamic team working at the heart of the UK-Belgium economic relationship, supporting Belgian companies to invest and grow in the UK.
Our daily work relies on the input of dedicated individuals who engage on many different topics and activities. We seek to employ a diverse range of candidates who bring their own talents and perspectives to the role. We have a strong corporate agenda that ensures we create a positive and inclusive working environment where everyone is valued for their contribution.
Main purpose of job
Working for DBT, the main purpose of the role is to attract investment from Belgian companies into the UK by providing tailored advice and support. The team works to challenging targets across six of the UK’s priority Industrial Strategy sectors: Advanced Manufacturing; Clean Energy Industries; Digital and Technologies; Financial Services; Life Sciences; Professional and Business Services.
You will build a detailed understanding of investor businesses and their potential UK plans, working closely with colleagues across the UK to provide market insight, connections and practical support to help them establish or expand in the UK.
The successful candidate will be responsible for building close relationships with existing investors, as well as identifying potential new investors across a range of sectors.
Roles and responsibilities
- Identify and engage Belgian companies with potential to invest in the UK through lead generation activities and sector research, contributing to a strong pipeline of investment projects;
- Develop and organise sector-focused events and campaigns to support delivery of the team’s objectives;
- Lead client-facing meetings with key existing and prospective investors, ensuring effective follow-up and ongoing investment support;
- Deliver a number of new investment or expansion projects from Belgian companies in the UK, managing a defined set of existing or potential investors across a range of sectors;
- Account management and support of key existing investors;
- Maintain productive relationships with relevant sector groups in London HQ and across the UK, as well as colleagues in the DBT European Network;
- Contribute to the delivery of annual investment targets for Belgium and Luxembourg as part of the wider Investment team;
- Participate in wider Mission’s initiatives and corporate initiatives as required.
Responsibilities may evolve over time in line with business needs. Any changes of responsibilities will be reflected in the job description.
Why apply?
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to play a direct role in promoting the UK in a key trading partner country. Working at the intersection of government and international business, you will support Belgian companies to invest and grow in the UK, contributing directly to economic growth and sector development.
You will engage with senior stakeholders, develop expertise across a range of priority sectors, and take ownership of a portfolio of investor relationships. As part of a small and collaborative team in Brussels, you will be encouraged to bring a motivated, commercially driven approach, with strong organisational and account management skills, and will see the tangible impact of your work.
